The first real piece of the current Miami Dolphins success has always been Jarvis Landry. Coming in as a second round selection back in 2014, Landry has been a playmaker ever since he arrived on South Beach. Though his arrival did not receive the most fan fair, Landry proved from the get go that he is one of the league’s best young receivers.
Playing as a slot man in the Miami Dolphins offense, I have never seen a receiver play with so much intensity on every play. Always choosing to try and extend the play as much as he can, Landry’s explosiveness and toughness has made him a favorite among both the Dolphins fan base and experts across the league. While his on field attitude has drawn the ire of some, it is that never surrender attitude which makes him great.
Even before the arrival of Adam Gase, Jarvis Landry was producing. Even before Ryan Tannehill finally showed some improvement, Landry was breaking big plays and becoming a top receiver in this league. In truth, Landry could be seen as the player that helped begin the amazing turnaround that is underway in Miami.
Entering the final year of his rookie contract, the Miami Dolphins and Jarvis Landry have had a great ride so far. Recording a combined 288 receptions, 3,051-yards, and 14 touchdowns over his first three years, Landry is this team’s most valuable player. While the Dolphins have some big fish to fry this offseason in terms of contracts, the main priority should be getting Landry locked down to a new deal.

"Even before Tannehill finally showed some improvement..."

Hate to derail, but this is a worthless comment - Tannehill has improved EVERY. SINGLE. SEASON. In 2015, considered his "down season", he showed a *noticeable* improvement on his deep ball. His play continued to improve even though the entire team was still **** around him. This year obviously everyone accepted that he's a player who is trending up, but that's because the coaching around him has gotten better, he's been just as steady as before, continuing his improvement. The dude has improved at least one part of his game every year... (next year I fully expect Aaron Rodgers-esque pocket presence /pipedream).

The reason it hasn't happened already is because it is going to be a big deal. Jarvis is betting on himself. He is going to get paid big time by someone. At the very least 10 mi a year.

Franchise should be burned to the ground if Landry is not re-upped.

I wouldn't get carried away.

Offer Landry a reasonable contract, sure but I would not make him the highest paid receiver in the league just to retain him. If he signs elsewhere, his production becomes some big shoes to fill, but it is NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. Scheme-wise, I feel confident that Gase will be able to plug and play to keep the Dolphins offense competitive. While I agree that Landry is a special player, he is not a top five ELITE WR.

The Dolphins need to prioritize their run defense and their OL.

There is only so much a hot headed ego maniacal slot receiver can do.

Landry is a great player, love his intensity, but he's not the elite WR many make him out to be. He's a really good slot receiver that sets the tone for the team, kind of like Hines Ward. Would I be sad to lose him? Of course. The same way I'd be sad if we lost Cam Wake. But if the deal can't be at least somewhat team-friendly while being fair to the player, it doesn't make sense to be held hostage by a player who's simply a fan favorite but not a top 3-5 talent at his overall position (meaning WR, not SLOT WR).

Can the team be successful without Landry? Of course. And I'd argue that if your offense is being run through Landry, as good as he is, you're still overall slightly crippled.

That being said, I hope he remains a Dolphin, receives a fair reward for his excellent work, but doesn't hamstring the team from addressing other needs.

$10 million + per year for a slot receiver who gets in the end zone
less than a handful of times a season is a very steep price

Um. You have to resign him. Also, he needs to mature a bit. Let him walk and we are the biggest losers of all time.

It's not about letting him walk versus how much he think he is worth. If his agent has a number in his head that overvalues him, then you do let him walk. It is that simple. That would not make the Dolphins big losers. It happens and you cannot keep chasing players with big contracts. A slot WR with Landry's production does NOT make any team great.

i understand this argument and every time he throws his helmet and gets a flag I want to punt him out of the stadium but he guy has intangibles that you can't measure and this is why I believe you pay him / keep him.
