A Dolphins official recently explained the team's management philosophy this way: The draft is where it primarily expects to acquire players who become Pro Bowl-caliber and others who will be useful pieces. The goal in free agency generally is to fill holes with good, solid players, not chase especially expensive neon names.

Even though an uncapped year sounds tantalizing, this regime doesn't like to enter bidding wars for in-their-prime Pro Bowlers or relinquish draft picks to sign top restricted free agents. (Remember, most top free agents would be restricted if 2010 is an uncapped year.) Miami will be aggressive and spend in free agency but also will be prudent after amassing the NFL's second-highest 2009 payroll ($127 million).

I strongly suggest reading the entire article. They have news on Patrick Turner, Chris Clemons and also Pat White. All around it's a good read.

They are going to do what they have done the past two offseasons. Add low price free agents with potential and continue to build the team through the draft.

At this pace, we may see the playoffs in 2 years. We are not as far a long as I thought we would be. The Pat White pick was absolutely the most horrible pick in Dolphins history given the need and availability of what we passed on. Parcells should be fined for stupidity with this pick. Unfortunately, we will be stuck with White because Parcells inflated ego will not cut him.

I am not sold at all on this team making the playoffs next year with the amount of holes that remain on defense.

This article also should spell out for those hoping for a big name like Dansby, don't count on it. With the second highest payroll I expect them to dump the trash like Wilson which leaves us right back to where we were last off season with the Safety position.

It's encouraging to see that Vontae Davis and Chad Henne are very serious about improvement by requesting video on their play.

Sad but true. A minimalistic approach to FA to this point tells me not to get my hopes up there. But where we might be pleasantly surprised is if there are surprise cuts from teams wanting out of a current starter's contract.

The rest of the improvement will have to come from the draft, as we all know well by now. Like every fan, I just wish we had more picks. But I don't see a lot of trade fodder on this roster with the exception of maybe Ginn, and I think his trade value is suspect at this point.

Doing next to nothing last offseason really did wonders for improving the team this year. While the jury is out on draftees you need to fill holes to stay competitive. Miami didn't do that this year. They signed Gibril Wilson who turned out to be a downgrade, and Jake Grove a solid upgrade; resigned Jason Taylor. That was the extent of last off season's FA work. Unacceptable.

It's one thing to not add many big names. It's another thing to add practically no one to better your team. Parcells and co fell asleep last offseason where they did a pretty good job the previous one. Lets not have that disappointment again, regardless of the name value we see.

That doesn't mean they won't go after Dansby, they we're real high on him last year. Dumping Porter and Torbor would cover his expense while vastly improving the LB'er core.

Signing an ILB would make our 1st pick real interesting... Bryant, Spiller, Williams, Hughes a trade back.

I really don't see them going offense with that first pick. In fact, I'll be surprised if there is more then one pick on the offensive side. The defense is horrible and has got to be the priority.

If they were to shock the world and sign Dansby, I can see them swapping with a late first rounder for the extra pick and picking Williams if he is on the board.

i cant believe they have the 2nd highest payroll, who has the 1st?
if the rid themselves of Porter & wilson, that saves $$ millions.
i can see a trade of Cam -bess or Ginn for a 4th rd pick prob Cam since he is the cheapest.

Ted you're better then that!!! Pat White doesn't even make the top 20 of this decade!!!

That sad someone needs to light a fire under Tuna and company this free agency period. This sign them on the cheap mentality needs to stop! Wilson, Green, Wilford, Grove, etc...

We need play makers on both sides of the ball! We need a GREAT Free Agency and DRAFT!!!

They can't possibly be watching these playoff games and thinking their approach is working. These big time QBs are stepping up.
