Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland understands the right side of his team’s offensive line needs to be rebuilt…AGAIN. Incumbent starter Vernon Carey, the former University of Miami standout who has started at both guard and tackle for the past seven seasons, will likely end up playing for another team following a solid season, where it turns out Carey was an alternate for the 2012 Pro Bowl.
I’m told Carey’s value is much higher elsewhere than in South Florida.
Then the Dolphins have to replace Marc Colombo, who was a disaster as the starting right tackle.

Despite the amount of money and draft picks the Bill Parcells era placed into the position, Ireland admits the offensive line was one of the team’s biggest issues considering Miami led the NFL in sacks (52) per passing play in 2011.
Ireland acknowledged at this point, without an offensive line coach, he’s uncertain about the best approach to repair the unit, which features Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long, Richie Incognito at left guard, and center Mike Pouncey, who produced a solid rookie season.
But Ireland likes the fact new head coach Joe Philbin has an offensive line background, which will help in the evaluation process.
Ironically, offensive line is one of the deepest units in the 2012 draft.
Ireland referring to reserve linemen John Jerry and Lydon Murtha, who missed all of 2011 with a broken foot he suffered in the exhibition season.

“One of the big things we didn’t have was Lydon Murtha this year,” Ireland said of Murtha, who did a solid job as the starting left tackle during the preseason. “He ended the 2010 season really strong, and I was looking forward to really seeing what he was going to become.”
Ireland made it clear he expects Long to make a full recovery from all his injuries last season, and admitted he isn’t sold on Jerry becoming a full-time starter for the Dolphins.
Jerry’s erratic play, practice habits and questionable conditioning have been an issue for the past two seasons.
“John has come a long way. He’s got a long way to go, I’ll tell you that,” Ireland said. “I like John. We coached him here at the Senior Bowl. He was able to fill in at different places, from tackle to guard. He’s got some role flexibility. He needs to get better. But he’s got a chance.”

this is what i feared. a complete overhaul of everything. I dont think thats what we need to do. we need a qb, a pass rusher, and a safety. Maybe NT now.

Maybe it will just be retooled properly this time. Not sure they need a complete rebuild.

If really shouldn't have to be. We have the personel for a very good OL right now, you just need to move some of them. First and formost, cut Colombo. Next, put Incognito at RG. Next, start Nate Garner. Anywhere but LT or C. Next, start Jerry at the spot you don't start Garner. Having said that, picking a Dave DeCastro makes this line scary good. I don't want a first round OL, but it would be hard to be pissed about DeCastro.

John Jerry is finally turning into a good player keep him, Pouncey, Long, and Incognito

Incrapito is dog shiz. I can't wait for him to be off this team.

The whole OL does not need to be "rebuilt", Jerry looked pretty good at LT so put him at RT and sign Ben Grubbs because Nicks will cost too much, LT-Long, LG-Icognito, C-Pouncey, RG-Grubbs, RT-Jerry, there its fixed

Murtha was coming along nicely, he started for Jake at LT in the preseason until he got hurt. He will be back.
Frankly, if everyone comes back healthy, we have the makings of a decent oline. We should still draft another guard or tackle though.
If we run the WCO, we will need mobile pass protecting lineman that still have their wheels. Carey will need to get into better shape.
Columbo will probably scurry up to NY to play for the meat balls.
