Sammy Watkins wowed the scouts at the Combine in February, running an electric 4.4-second 40-yard dash. But in Buffalo, he’s not even the fastest guy on his team. Not even close.
That title belongs to receiver Marquise Goodwin, an Olympic long-jumper who in 2013 ran the third-fastest 40 in NFL history: 4.27 seconds.
Throw in Robert Woods, who clocked a 4.5 coming out of college, and the Dolphins on Sunday could be covering the fastest group of wideouts they’ll face all season.
“It just might be,” said corner Will Davis, who will be on the field when the Dolphins go to their nickel package. “Not looking at the schedule, but they’re up there. If not, definitely a close second. We know that. Definitely have to be on your Ps and Qs.”
That’s assuming E.J. Manuel is actually permitted to throw the ball. In the Bills’ 23-20 Week 1 upset in Chicago, Buffalo passed just 22 times – compared to 33 Bills runs. No Buffalo receiver had more than four catches.

Goodwin is fast, but he doesn't really play much so I would lose any sleep worrying about him. Woods is solid a slot receiver, a lot like Jarvis Landry. Watkins is a rookie, but I still think the Bills will take at least two deep shots to him to test Miami and keep them from bringing eight in the box.

Bracing is definitely the right word. That's what they're going to be doing to prepare for the downfield blocking as EJ Manuel throws wormburners and screens for about 30 minutes on Sunday.

They've been able to hit more intermediate to downfield passes than I'd like in recent meetings.

They have a NICE set of receivers. Our DL is going to need to play well in this game! Its crazy how pivotal this game is so early in the season.

Sammy Watkins needs more work. Glad we get him early in his career and w/ manuel, its almost a 50-50 prop to hit it long. Goodwin is the bet I would make to go long.

If they dont try it in the first half, they most assuredly will in the second. I would imagine they will have a TE on Wake side to keep him at bay on something long. Something Philbin and co. should keep an eye on.

I would play Jones and Jordan. Jones experience with the way Wilson has been playing would be nice. They play defense after all and its not like they cant get them up to speed and Jordan would only play select packages.

The best thing is that ouor corners are aware of the bill speed and will respect it, adjust for it. Delmas is experienced enough to play them right. Finnegan played great last week. Grimes will be on Watkins I guess, and that's great for us.

Bills have an amazing surround-sound cast of players for Manuel.

Hard to think of a non-playoff team that features so much talent at WR, RB, OL, TE and DL (and LB when they're all there).

Bills are stacked with playmakers and high draft picks.

If their QB play were above average they'd be a playoff team easy.

p.s. I watched their game w. the Bears on NFL Rewind. Massive talent at key positions. Except QB -- and even QB seems to have more upside than say, Geno Smith.

I wanted Goodwin so bad in that draft. He would have been great returning kicks for us. I really hated that we didn't pick him although I did think he would last longer. I think he went a few picks after we picked Dallas Thomas if I remember correctly. I was hoping we would use our 4th rounder on him but he didn't last that long. I would have certainly rather have him than Dallas Thomas.

You're right, I know it's hard for me to say this but, Miami look s like a complete team this year. The LBers are concerning, but look how they stepped up last game. Do we have a truly well rounded team now?

I don't see the TE talent. I like our TEs better than the bills. Chandler does not scare me, and I am not sure they have anyone else that would make our team.

Are you asking if I think that Miami is a well-rounded team now?

If so, the answer is no.

We have better talent than last year but we have some huge question marks, suspect depth, and positions in need of upgrade.

Miami's LB situation is subject to getting exposed against Buffalo. As well as the DBs. I could see Buffalo's WRs gashing this secondary repeatedly. Not sold on our CBs yet -- haven't seen anything above average play from anyone other than Grimes. LB is walking wounded -- which just may be better than what would have been put on the field had everyone been healthy. And that is a scary thought.

RB is much improved but if Moreno gets hurt, again we're hurting.

TE -- Clay and Sims are vastly overrated downfield. Anytime your TE is not a huge mismatch against single coverage by LB or DB (for different reasons), it says a lot. Clay struggles w. separation and struggles w. the ability to screen w. his body and make consistent catches while covered up. He's a good all purpose TE for any team, but relying on him as your number 1 downfield option for TE is classically mediocre. Sims, don't get me started on him. Both Clay and Sims should DOMINATE in this offense if they could be downfield TEs.

For too many years Miami has staffed key positions w. "consistent" mediocrity, valuing that over upside players who may be less consistent in practice. That's starting to change, but so far there are lots of holdovers of these "consistently mediocre" players.

Miami is much improved in scheme and unit coaching but still needs to improve depth and skill at key positions.

Put it this way: Apart from QB, Miami has less talent across the board than Buffalo. Better coaching though now, imo.
