Miami Dolphins Talking Points: Keeping 3 QBs will take away someone else’s roster spo

Jesus Hell really..... :crazy::lol2:

You would really be interested in tanking. :rolleyes2:

I never said I wanted to tank, I only stated it was a possibility. Everyone else seemed to make that distinction.
I actually think we can do well this year. I think we could win 10 games if the chips fall right.

Garrad is no Pennington. There are Garrards available every offseaon, but not Penningtons. Garrard had 2 good statistical years, but if you watch him play, he just doesnt move the ball or make big plays. He would be a perfect QB for Sparano.

Garrad could be released at the end of the preseason and nobody would pick him up. He would be there during the season if Matt Moore ever went down with an injury, and his salary wouldnt be guaranteed if he isnt active for the first game. I think thats why the Fins gave him a $1M bonus and incentive based contract. At some point you have to consider the long term plans for the team, which is where I think Moore trumps Garrard.

I've watched David Garrard play a lot of football. This new characterization of him being a guy that "doesn't make plays" is baffling to me. That was his specialty. He made plays that look ridiculous. The problem was too many negative plays, sacks and fumbles, to go along with the ridiculous positive ones.

Again, to each their own, but that particular characterization which I saw in a news item recently and perhaps not so coincidentally I now see from the fanbase...is just not one that I understand.

Well its not really a new characterization. Its what Jax fans have been saying for years and I'd have to agree, although I never really cared until now. He had a really tough time punching the ball into the endozone at times. He improved a bit in 2010, but he also started 14 games in 2010 and only passed for more than 200 yards 6 times. He is very inconsistent and doesnt move the chains. Lots of short drives even with a strong running game. I just wanst impressed with him, and he's not going to get better at this stage.

silver lining with garrard is that he almost made te mercedes lewis into a pro bowler in 2010...the same guy blaine gabbert made an afterthought in 2011...

Blaine Gabbert will make Chad Henne look good when he starts mid-season

they're both gonna come up short...jax will be in the qb market in 2013...they got 2 young guys at the position but neithers taking them anywhere...

I don't disagree with you at all, I just wonder at this point in his career and physical condition if he still has what he once had. That is why I seriously doubt he will be a factor when this team is actually ready to possibly contend.

Here's some examples of him making plays...

I'm not saying David Garrard is the end-all/be-all. I just disagree with this characterization that making big, impressive plays was his problem. I think it's more the opposite. He made those big impressive plays but he also made a lot of negative plays where he needed to just settle down and operate the offense.

That's why it impressed me when I saw him interviewed and he talked about having to sit home all through 2011 rehabbing his back. He studied the offenses that stood head and shoulders above everyone in 2011 (Packers, Saints and Patriots) and came to the conclusion that what was getting them down the field and making them effective weren't all the big plays but the little plus plays here and there converting third downs, keeping drives alive, not making negative plays, etc. This was something I was hoping Joe Philbin could impress on him, but it looks like he may have discovered it for himself.

ck bottom line...do you think a fully healthy david garrard is a qb that can get you over the hump at the position???

Half of those links dont work for me, one is a preseason game, and half are running plays (will a 34 year old QB coming off of a major back injury still be able to run like that?). You really need to watch the gameflow to gauge Garrad imo. He will complete 4 passes in a row, then throw 2 duds on 2nd and 3rd down and the D is back on the field again - thats the QB that Garrad was in Jax. I dont doubt Garrard can make a play here and there, but he just doesnt get it done consistently. The QBs who play well into their mid 30's are QB's with elite passing skills, which Garrad never had.

He can get you to the playoffs, he can even win you a playoff game, but he probably won't win you the Super Bowl. But keep in mind there's really only half a dozen QBs out there right now that are really competing for the championship every year. The league is being dominated by Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning (when healthy) and Aaron Rodgers. That group accounts for the last 9 Super Bowl winners.

If you're grading every move's worthiness based on whether it gets you "over the hump" you don't end up making a lot of moves, and you end up losing a lot of games.

Garrard is a fine stop gap to compete with Moore until Tannehill takes over......nothing more and nothing less.

Garrard has done well, considering he's always had crappy WRs. He's actually a good fit for Miami, since our WR group is shaky at best.

The scary part is that I cannot envision RT on the same level as Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning (when healthy) and Aaron Rodgers. As much as I want to see RT be the guy, I have my doubts. I guess we can continue to hope and we will find out in the next couple of years.
