1. Matt Moore won’t be cut, and isn’t going anywhere for now.
Anyone who has spent at least a day or two at Miami Dolphins training camp can tell that
David Garrard is beating out
Matt Moore and
Ryan Tannehill for the starting quarterback job. But after we reported last week that
the Dolphins aren’t 100 percent committed to keeping all three quarterbacks on the roster, many readers have taken that to mean that Moore might be cut if he doesn’t win the starting job.
2. Brian Hartline needs to get back on the field.
When
Brian Hartline missed some OTAs because of a calf injury, it wasn’t that big of a deal. He’s a fourth-year veteran with a proven level of modest success in the NFL, and potentially a good fit in the West Coast Offense. When he missed the minicamp in June with an appendectomy, it wasn’t viewed as a big deal, either. He still had five weeks of training camp to prove himself.
But it’s now eight practices into training camp, and Hartline is still sidelined with that pesky calf injury. And it’s time for Hartline to start worrying about his spot on the team, if he wasn’t already.
3. Where’s Michael Egnew?
Most of the Dolphins’ top rookies are performing well so far. Tannehill’s athleticism looks to be the real deal,
Jonathan Martin has been the team’s starting right tackle since camp opened, defensive end
Olivier Vernon has made a few big plays with the Nickel defense and running back
Lamar Miller is starting to earn snaps with the starting offense.
