When Dolphins center Jake Grove drives opposing nose tackles into the turf, don't expect him to help them up.

That's just how coach Tony Sparano and vice president of football operations Bill Parcells like it.

"I really don't think he is that nice of a guy," Sparano said with a grin after Tuesday's practice.

What the Dolphins regime didn't like last year was the inability of the interior line to create push or space for the running backs to maneuver inside the tackles from the base formation. That weakness spawned the Wildcat, which utilized an unbalanced line and the ball skills of tailback Ronnie Brown as the pseudo quarterback to gain nearly 2 yards more per rush (6.1 to 4.2) than they did from a basic setup.

I do wonder how close this Dolphins line is to resembling the typically Parcells power run blocking OL?

The line is making improvements along and along, Grove is an upgrade in the run game just hope he stays healthy Stalete did start all 3 years since he was drafted, I am really interested in Donald Thomas I think he could be a huge contributor if he would stay healthy, and what happened to Shawn Murphy he was drafted ahead of Thomas and never sees the field.

Im curious, isnt 4.2 yards per attempt in the basic setup a good number? I would think thats a good number, with 6+ an outstanding number. Aside from that, I think the addition of Grove is going to improve our interior blocking, and I think the OL as a whole is better, and could be great, as long as we arent hit with a massive injury.

We basically traded Satele for him. Or swapped if you may. As long as he stays healthy im fine with it.

I was actually very excited about the signing - and still am. While he isn't as big as the much-coveted Brown, I think he'll be just as good in the run game - if not better. Nick Mangold, after all, is listed at the same weight as Grove, so size shouldn't be too great a concern. Durability is my only question. If I'm not mistaken, his metrics are better than Brown's and second only to Mangold.

As long as he holds up, I think he'll be more-or-less perfect.

Will He Provide That Push?

I sure hope so:

Dolphins expect pickup of center Grove to bear fruit against AFC East and its massive nose tackles

If I had to guess, I'd have to say at least a couple more years / solid drafts away...

IN TUNA WE TRUST...

I'd say the next draft away...it seem to follow a path that the guards and running back will come in next years draft.

IF Groves knees hold up then yes I agree but there is more to the story than if a guy can block for just half the season!

Well, 4 of the 5 "penciled" starters (Long, Smiley, Grove, and Thomas hopefully) were hand-picked by this regime. The lone man that's not, Vernon Carey, was given the league's highest contract for a RT, so I'm assuming he fits what they're looking for.

Now, how close are these 5 to being what this regime has in mind? I think Long is there already and will only continue to get better. If Smiley and Grove stay healthy and Carey can keep his weight at 340lbs as he's promised, I really think the only missing link is when we'll see Donald Thomas on the field again. If those 5 can play together for an entire season, I think they'd be up to snuff with where Parcells & Co. think they should be.
