Dolphins offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James. (Allen Eyestone / The Palm Beach Post)
INDIANAPOLIS — If the Miami Dolphins were to decide to release starting right tackle Ja’Wuan James, the player would need to be healthy.
James missed the last eight games of last season with a hamstring injury. But it appears that is no longer a concern.
“As far as medically, (James is) healthy and we’ve got to make a decision here coming up,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase said. “We’ve still got a couple weeks before we have to make any type of decision.”

Give him a sensible and appropriate extension and avoid creating more holes. Maybe in the 3 year range to give him a chance to prove himself (injury) for a better pay day.

We hold the leverage here. And he can play at a high level at times. Maybe not consistently, but that is where the pay reflects his track record.

Davis might be better, but I'd rather have Davis (RG) and James (RT) than just Davis (RT) and trying to fill another hole.

But he's missed half the season twice in only 4 years so we can't count on him. It'd have to be at a much and I mean much lower pay rate

Ozzy rules!!

As I say, we have the leverage. We could get him cheap on a 2 or 3 year extension based on his injury history. He'd be motivated to improve his next contract.

Say, 3 years $12M

I think if you can extend him, its okay, but at that price, see ya. I agree with other people that we shouldn't make another hole, but we could find a way to get by. I would only wanna see him get like 5-6 mil aav for James.

Options at RT- Davis, maybe Eric Smith. Or someone in the middle of the draft. I bet they see Davis as the starting RG if James is here, but I didn't mind him at all at RT. Larsen and Asiata at RG. Then LG is the main hole to fill. We could draft a G in the second. Or someone with G/C versatility. I like Brendel too. I think we need to draft at least one player, somewhere along the line

Actually James has the leverage. If they pull the 5th year he goes into Free agency and he will get at minimum what he was gonna get on the 5th year in guaranteed money.

Miami will need to offer something like 5/34, with 10 million in guarantees. The cap hit for year 1 would likely drop from 9.3 million to under 5 million.

Ja'Wuan James has actually played the exact same number of games the last 4 years as Mike Pouncey with 47.
