He brings up an interesting point. Do think the Phins just signed Yeatman to gain a knowledge inside the Patriots playbook? I think it would be pretty lame to bring him in and after the first game let him go for someone else.
The big news of the day for Miami may be the claiming of former New England TE Will Yeatman. Yeatman was apparently headed to the New England practice squad when Miami claimed him off waivers. It was reported earlier by members of the Boston media that Yeatman had caught the eye of Patriot coach Bill Belichick and that he was actually on the verge of making the final 53.
The Dolphins are not deep at TE by any means and the team may opt to release Jeron Mastrud instead of simply adding Yeatman as a third TE. The Dolphins will almost assuredly keep him on the 53 as he would be unprotected on the practice squad. The claiming of Yeatman will also benefit defensive coordinator Mike Nolan who will now be able to cull information out of the former Patriot. The Dolphins of course open a week from tomorrow at home against their division rival.
Yeatman was set to sign with the Patriots as a PS addition when the league informed the team and his agent that the Dolphins had claimed him. Yeatman is a former lacrosse star and is known more for his blocking ability than his hands. However, word out New England camp this summer indicated Yeatman was having no problem picking up the playbook. He had 5 receptions for 30 yards during pre-season and is considered a high end project but a project nonetheless.

He has to stay on the team for at least 3 weeks I believe. I think they where interested in him anyway and doubt it is just to gain an advantage.

I would say that Miami and Buffalo pissed BB off. We take Yeatman, at least we helped make a decision for him. Now he goes into this game with two pass catching TE's and no Blocking TE which he needed. Now I certainly think they will do just fine without Yeatman. But yeah, long term plans, BB is pissed.

I always say, If BB is going to get all these draft day trade upgrades, then you might as well see who he is drafting and see who we can steal later and not waste a pick.

BB helps the league IMO. Problem is, teams are now staying away from trading with bill, tired of looking stupid to fans/media.

What?

He hasn't even had a full training camp... What could he know?

One could assume Yeatman knows the NE playbook. However, I think he was brought in because the Dolphins believe he fills a need and has the talent to be on their 53 man roster. Time will tell.

He might not have the whole playbook memorized but he knows more than a player that's never been in the patriots building. Its very unlikely this guy gives us a lot of info but if he does I'm with it. Plus we need some depth at TE anyways.

Go Phins!

Hernandez is a pass-catching TE, but Gronkowski can do both.

The article is way off base. Happens all the time.
Cheat could care less except now he needs to find another TE for his practice squad. No biggie.

I agree with The Confessor on this one. This is not a new process in the NFL and I promise the Pats were well aware that Yeatman most likely would be picked up when they cut him. We are going to need a LOT more than this to beat NE.

considering we only have Fasano who is able to block well from that position, he was a player of need....reports out of Patriot camp was he was a force in practice.....

In an open-field tackling drill, Will Yeatman absolutely trucked Matt Slater on one rep. Slater was slow getting up, but got back out there and made a nice form tackle on Yeatman the next time around

#3 TE- Will Yeatman vs. Lee Smith- Yeatman has really impressed in camp, and his college background of being a lacrosse player in Maryland certainly doesn't hurt either. Both players are blocking TE's by trade. Lee Smith was a 5th rd. pick vs Yeatman being an UDFA who idolizes New England. I give the edge to Yeatman- he has shown more as a pass catcher than Smith, but Yeatman may be cut and placed on the Practice Squad because BB doesn't want to lose Smith. With Mills cut, it is a certainty that at least 1 makes the roster. No winners here

No dis-respect, but taking out Slater isnt all that impressive, nor do I see how Lacrosse helps him be a better football player.

The fact he "Idolizes New England" says he needs a check-up from the Neck-up.

probably doesn't help him fundamentally with the game of football, but you can't play lacrosse and be a heavy-footed plodder.

EDIT: after seeing the video of his 40 yard dash, i'll take everything back. this guy IS a heavy-footed plodder
