With conflicting reports out there that Brett Favre may/may not retire (again), this time from the Vikings, Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano was asked for his reaction.

He was in the “middle of [planning] practice schedules” this morning, so it’s not like he was sitting around the Dolphins offices telling Favre stories, but with the Dolphins headed to Minnesota in Week 2 — Sept. 19 — the subject had more relevance than usual.

“There were times where with Brett, you kind of felt like it was 7 on 7 out there and nobody was on the other side,” Sparano said of past battles with Favre. “Some of the throws he made, some of the plays he made. I remember in Dallas, us having him in the grasp a few different times. He spun out one time, spun around, [we] kind of had him again, we thought he was down. Next thing you know he flips this thing up and he makes a big play on us.

“Then we see this thing down here in the first game that I coached in here (Jets at Dolphins, 2008), my first at-bat, this thing goes up in the air and ends up coming down into somebody’s hands. It’s amazing. The good players, sometimes they make it look easy, and he made it look pretty easy for a long time.”

Asked if he believes Favre is going to retire/stay retired this time, Sparano gave a wry smile.

“I’ll believe it when the season starts and he’s at that couch somewhere out there,” he said. “All I know is we’re going to Minnesota in Week 2. I hope he’s … ”

Pause.

“We’ll see.”

Laughter all around.

No matter what,Favre handled this situation incorrectly imo. There is no reason why he could not report to Training Camp. The same workout routine he is doing at that local high school could have been done at Camp.

He is not at Training Camp because he didn't want to be, had nothing to do with his decision to play or retire either way. I beleive last year was an exception and he would not be able to repeat the season he had.

I was honestly hoping he would show up late again and flop on his face this season to bring him back to reality. To let him know he is not as great as he thinks he is.

Sorry, but until I hear it from Favre or from Childress, I'm not buying anything. Too much of this attention seeking speculation to actually believe any of this "rumor" garbage. Even after he announces it, I'll still not completely believe it until game #1 starts and he's not there.

I think Favre will come back, but if he doesn't, we'll have two should-win games on the road to start the season.

I can just imagine Rich Eisen and John Madden rushing to see their therapists today. ;)

How about the video game?

Won't they have to send out a new update?

Minny is going to be tough(especially at home) w/ or w/o Favre. obviously the game gets easier w/o him but they still have tons of talent on that team.
