Despite his admission to Yahoo Sports that he’s been too conservative on offense, Tony Sparano is serious about running the football. Earlier this week Sparano admitted that anyone who knows him well enough knows an “off tackle run” will be his bread-and-butter play. Problem is the Dolphins didn’t have anyone who could run it effectively.
That’s where Johnson comes in, and he’ll be given two weeks to prove he deserves to be on the 53-man roster. Why two weeks? Because if he’s on the roster in week one his contract becomes fully guaranteed.
Personally, I don’t think the Dolphins are done upgrading the running back spot. They still need a tailback who can provide some of what Bush proves. Keep in mind Bush has missed 20 of the 80 games his team has played in his six seasons.
However, the Dolphins might wait for the waiver wire to get popping to poach another tailback.
