Here's the deal on draft eve

Well, that's why you are here. This is what is likely to happen Saturday for the Miami Dolphins:

MOST LIKELY PICK AT No. 9: Offensive tackle Levi Brown. It's not sexy but the Dolphins realize (I think) that you need a foundation for the offense and that position is a HUGE need. There's an argument out there that OL coach Hudson Houck can make good players out of low draft picks so don't waste one this high. Well, have you thought about what Houck can do with a high pick? He should be able to turn them into a monster! This move also allows Miami to possibly let Anthony Alabi get some snaps at right tackle and left guard, thus improving the depth along a line that is paper thin on talent.

MOST LIKELY TRADE: I think the Chiefs realize that if they don't get something for Trent Green now, they may not get anything at all. Next year is a long time to wait for a conditional pick so I think wiser heads will prevail and the two sides finally agree on a deal. I do know this: The Dolphins aren't giving up a second round pick.

MOST LIKELY SCENARIO FOR GETTING BRADY QUINN: The Dolphins desperately want Quinn. They want him enough to give up picks in the second round to get him. So if Quinn falls past Cleveland at No. 3, the Dolphins will be on the phones trying to get up to Arizona at No. 5 and Washington at No. 6 to get Quinn. This is fact. By the way, this scenario still happens if Washington and Chicago swap linebacker Lance Briggs for the No. 6 pick. The Dolphins will simply try to make the trade with the Bears.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: I do not think the Dolphins will get Quinn. The latest news about Adrian Peterson having re-injured his collarbone in the Fiesta Bowl will force the Browns to take Quinn instead of Peterson, I believe.)

MOST LIKELY SECOND ROUND SCENARIO: If the Dolphins can't get Quinn by making a trade in the first round, they know they have to pick up a quarterback soon thereafter, if possible. Everyone says three will be available in the second round when Miami picks but I have my doubts about that because Oakland, Detroit and Chicago could go shopping for QBs in the second round and all are ahead of Miami. Look for the Dolphins to try and trade up to get their targetted player. The guy the Dolphins like most out of BYU's John Beck, Michigan State's Drew Stanton and Stanford's Trent Edwards is (drum roll here) Beck. Edwards is second.

bring us quinn randy!

I think that the likelihood of getting Trent Green takes the pressure off. When I think about it, unless the team REALLY has a conviction about Quinn or one the tier 2 QB's, they can wait until #40 and cherry pick. I'd still like to see a slide down, that Broncos/Texans deal looks good to me, and we're #9 vs. #10, all the better for Denver.

So they can trade up for Quinn, trade down and take their favorite tier 2 QB (apparently Beck) or just take BPA, preferably Bowe, Meachem, Staley, Brown, Ginn, or Jamaal Anderson.

The worst option seems to be sitting at #9, unless of course Quinn slides, or maybe Peterson, which could make things even more interesting.

I'm getting my beer early tomorrow, this is gonna be a fun draft.

i think we get screwed in ro und 1 AND 2.

Seems to me that the Dolphins could move down either with Carolina or the Giants. I still say after all is said and done...they will have a better chance at Russell than Quinn if they stay or move up...there is no way that the Browns will let Quinn go past them at 3.

cmon buddy! No need to be negative right now. This is like the most exciting time about the fins we have for the next 4 months. Take it easy. By the way if you are right I might not make it through the day let alone the rest of the off-season. Jack Daniels will be tried for muder, and wrongly acused as Randy and Cam should be the ones behind bar.

Not gonna happen

IMHO, Miami is NOT trading up, not Cam or Randy, no way. If anything they will trade down but in this years draft, weak in depth at QB, DL, and lack of franchise LB's, most teams will look to trade down so it's a buyers market which spells odds against executing a downward trade unless you are one of the top five teams picking.

Miami is even less likely to trade up in the second round unless they use a current player vs a draft pick i.e. Booker or RW. A package of swapping 2nd round picks plus a Booker or RW for a very early 2nd ie 34 or 35 pick may be doable but for who? 2nd tier QB? nope, the remaining 3-4 QB's are relatively equal. An OL if Staley drops or WR is SSmith is there? More probable.

I think this is one of those years that the fan base wouldn't complain very much at all if Mueller dropped the a 2nd and 3rd trading up for Quinn. A very QB-starved fan base here in Miami

I totally agree with you. Do whatever it takes to land Quinn.
He'll be here for the next 10-13 years (hopefully). I think that's worth it!

Actually Mike Martz, who probably knows a few things about QB's, was recently quoted as saying this is the deepest draft for QB's he's seen in a while.

John Clayton said that the Dolphins wouldn't move up for Quinn. They plan on taking Levi Brown at 9, unless Quinn falls that far. Who knows if he's right.
