One NFL person who spoke to Miami's front office said the Dolphins do not want to lose Vernon Carey and will make signing him a priority.

Also, there is talk that the team's sale to Ross will happen this upcoming week:

A close associate said Wayne Huizenga is so eager to get rid of Dolphins majority ownership and pass it on to Stephen Ross that he might allow Ross to defer some payments. There's talk the deal might close this week.

Carey should have his fat rearend in the weight room right now and he should also have a personal trainer so he can get his weight under control once and for all. I am sick and tired of these professional athletes showing up to training camp 40-50 pounds heavier then they should be. There is simply no excuse for it.

I'm glad that they're trying to resign him because its is one less hole to fill. We still have a lot of work to do on this roster and it would help by keeping our right tackle.

I really don't like what I keep hearing about Ross. Now Wayne is going to "allow Ross to defer some payments." Just what we need, a freaking owner that can't afford this team. This spells disaster IMO. Freaking Wayne had to do this while the team is starting to have some success.

Just another distraction that the players, management, and fans have to deal with.

I hear that. I dont like the idea of this guy at all. Dolphins fan or not the thought of losing the Tuna makes me ill.

Actually, not so. Sparano wants BIG OL...so Carey is just fine at 330lbs. If he loses 10lbs, that's easy. He can lose that in a couple of weeks.

problem with your theory is careys 350 Carey, Vernon T 6-5 350 7/13/81

to be honest i dont think his weights a issue like the other poster seems to think. parcells dose like big olinemen but not if their fat and out of shape and the mear fact we never heard sporano or parcells comment on careys weight or tell him he needs to slim down leeds me to belive him being 350 isnt a problem for carey or the coaching staff

Just remember...A partner that is on unsteady finances will not be allowed to buy in. I've been trying to tell you guys about the motivations of the NFL all season. *Money*...I know it's a shock......

Buisness guys are in it to make money...Again, I know it's a shock. The NFL is king of the heap. Goddell will not allow an ecenomic failure to take over the team.

It's a relief to me personally that you are here for us. Thanks for trying to teach and please don't give up.

This was a no-brainer really. Teams don't lose healthy, veteran, above average tackles unless there's a real problem such as an insane cap number or legal trouble, etc. He has none of those problems. Carey may have underperformed and been overweight, but he's a solid player and solid citizen who rarely misses games and can perform adequately at LT if needed. Those types of players generally get offered silly money if they're allowed to hit free agency proper. Vernon has grown up in Miami, went to college in Miami, spent his entire pro career in Miami, is appreciated in Miami, helps the community in Miami, and loves Miami. I can't really see him wanting to leave unless he's offered an insane amount more money than we can offer him. It may not be quick, but I suspect the Dolphins will get him signed.
