Copper a valuable commodity
<Mar> Copper, a restricted free agent, is generating pretty solid interest from teams such as Miami, writes ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli. Because he originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent in 2004, Copper would not cost any compensation for a team that successfully executed an offer sheet with him.
Copper averaged an impressive 16.7 yards per reception in 2006 and scored a touchdown every 7.6 catches. He can return kickoffs, might be able to return punts in a pinch, and plays on all the special teams coverage units.

Comment:
Copper has good hands and above-average speed and athleticism. He is effective on kick coverage teams and is a reliable return specialist. He can be impressive with his ability to snatch balls away from his body and make tough catches. He has some vertical skills and, when he finds a crease, can turn a short pass into a long gain. But Copper still is somewhat raw and inexperienced. He isn't very elusive in the open field and doesn't provide many big plays. He doesn't seem to have great route awareness or the ability to recognize defenses and make adjustments on the move. He has good bulk but isn't very tall. He isn't much of a threat on third downs or in red-zone and jump-ball situations.

He wasn't really a vital piece of the Saints offense, but sounds like he may be able to make a name for himself in Miami. Who knows, just some news on the Wr front that I found. We'll see where this leads....
