Miami needs DT's after watching the past two weeks how they have been run over. I think they miss Solai a lot.
With Starks and Odrick sure to be leaving, (Miami will not pay Odrick the 50 mill+ that he is worth and Starks is getting
long in the tooth).

So just off the top of my head these players should be on the watch list.

  1. *Eddie Goldman 6-3, 315 5.20 Florida State
  2. Danny Shelton 6-2, 335 5.20 Washingtn NT
  3. *Arik Armstead 6-8, 295 4.95 Oregon 3/4 DE
  4. Mike Bennett 6-2, 290 4.90 Ohio State
  5. Carl Davis 6-4, 315 5.15 Iowa
  6. *Ellis McCarthy 6-3, 330 5.15 UCLA

What round is the Key though, I bet they jump for it in the second round, providing they do not sign a
player in the off-season. Which has been Miami habit in the past.

Any thoughts?

If there is a plug and play 1st or 2nd round Behemoth available when we pick, I'd be ok with it (Soliai took 3+ years to develop), but looking at our offense yesterday, RT seems to be obsessed with the short routes to Landry, and feels uncomfortable with any other option. We definitely need to get him better weapons!

Also, having AJohnson and Fede onboard, I'd look into maybe adding a Vet if Odrick and Starks walk, but these 2 kids with Mitchell can give us depth.

Walter Football now has us taking FSU's DT Eddie Goldman in round one.

Miami had tons of chances to go after the big guys but they prefer the smaller faster guys and thats what been kiiling this defense. It is the philosophy, stupid!

DT doesn't seem like a draft strength this year. I don't see one that I would take in the first round except for Williams from USC, who might be the #1 overall pick. I certainly wouldn't take any of the other guys if a Gurley, Gordon, Parker type player is on the board.

Davis has the ability to take up double teams and might be an option in R2 or R3. I think Miami's philosophy, though, has played out pretty well this season. The Dolphins clearly want to stop the pass and bring in players who can rush the quarterback. This has included their DT's. I think a player like Davis would be a situational guy for Miami.

Curious to see where Shelton goes. He might have enough burst for Coyle's liking - while adding much needed size in the middle.

Yea, my thought is paying Odrick 50mil would be Absolutely ridiculous. Odrick is solid but he's not a Pro-bowler. I would hate to lose him, but there is no way he can command that kind of money.....he isn't even an every down DT.

It's been a sickening season watching defensive tackle for the Dolphins and Canes. I can't decide which is more pathetic, watching Calvin Heurtelou gently arm wrestling with offensive linemen or Earl Mitchell embarking on his patented wheel routes. The Dolphins have a defensive tackle who prefers to cover more ground sideways than our quarterback is willing to risk downfield.

Why can't we find a playmaking brute? Last night I was watching a tape of Louisville at Notre Dame from two weeks ago. Notre Dame was deep in Louisville territory and threatening to win the game when nose tackle DeAngelo Brown split a double team and made an emphatic sack that completely changed that possession. Notre Dame ended up settling for a field goal, which they missed, allowing Louisville to escape with the win. I don't know much about Brown otherwise. He's not a senior and I doubt he'll declare for this draft. But it was so numbing to watch an interior lineman making disruptive plays in key situation, like so many guys from Miami football history like Manny Fernandez or all the Canes guys like Brown, Kennedy and Sapp. I miss it immensely.

You see what Vince Wilfork has done year after year against the oponent"s running game. We have to restock at DT. Denver's backup RB's were getting 5-6 yards before even being touch by a Phin's defender.

It is an area of concern...especially watching them get rolled the last few weeks. I think Odrick is on the way out...he's still srt of a tweener (3/4 end 4/3 5 tech) and not dynamic at either. Starks is finally starting to show his age. Mitchell is here for the next few years (at a reasonable contract), but is more suited to being a role player as opposed to a every down DT. One very expensive option maybe Suh...
