I thought I'd start a thread about this Thursday's matchup. There's plenty of OL posts on here, but not much focus on what will be a tough job for our OL this week. It's funny that we've seen the Jags and Bucs DLs so far which are darned good, but Carolina's, at least to me, is about the best going if they've got everyone in and they're all healthy. I want to see if we can run at them or not as it seems to be our strength. Pass protection will probably be more difficult.

What do you think about the matchup? Is Peppers on Vernon's side or does he get moved around? What kind of night do you think Carey will have? Can he get help from Bennie if needed? An extra TE to chip away or just what?

I just hope we're up for it, as they usually say that game three of preseason is your dress rehersal, not the final game. Anyway, I can't wait!

Also, I'm putting a link to their depth chart on nfl.com for their roster. To anyone familiar with them, is that accurate? It says Reggie Howard's their backup LCB. Did he end up back there? lol

Well, they completely neutralized Rucker/Peppers last season in Carolina. I dont think they got any sacks, or even really any real pressure either.

Kemoeatu and Jenkins are very nice DTs, but our O-line is better set up to deal with bigger linemen like them.

I think they'll excell in run blocking, but struggle at times in pass pro.

I also think this will sum up the O-Line play for the whole year.

They've got to clean it up in pass pro as the season progresses.

Saban has stated that RG is a weakness, and the Panthers have a very stout DL that gets after the QB. If we have the same mental mistakes we had against the Bucs, we're going to see more struggles as a result....

I think the OL needs to settle down, and come out with more confidence this week. They looked uneasy at the start of Saturday's game in Tampa, let's hope they gained some confidence on that 9 minute drive, and can build off of that success. They'll need it that's for sure....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

our guys are big and they only really have trouble with speed(cover 2 teams).

Last year we were rather good against the panthers...but that was at home and it was rather hot and humid.

The million dollar matchup. Phins OL vs the Panther DL.
The Panther added some really nice depth on their DL.(former 'Cane I think)

FWIW; the Jag board had Henderson with a sprained ankle when the Phins and Jags played. If accurate this matchup(Phins/Panthers) will be a better indictor of how good the OL will be.

I remember being at the game last season when we beat Carolina and I was really surprised at how well our OL played against Carolina. I believe no sacks allowed, not many pressures, Ronnie's 1st TD and 1st 100 yd and 150 yd game. Carey and McDougle were switching off on Peppers and I didn't hear his name once. Nor did I hear Rucker's name. Jenkins is back though and they added Kemoeatu and Damione Lewis inside so we will just have to wait and see.

Seems we're better suited to handle big DL like Carolina has, while we seem to have troubel with the smaller, quicker guys like Tampa's DL. We can only hope our OL fares much better than they did vs. Tampa!

Reggie Howard came from there and he is their nickle amd dime back. he actually played well enough to get attention but wanny should have never paid him 25 mill. The Panthers line is better than ever trust me. They added Damien Lewis whom some of you may remember at the U and that other beast just incase Jenkins injuries continue. I expect them to take it easy once they get to Daunte and( yes I beleive they will) because they are a classy bunch of guys and hated he got injured against them last year. I expect a big defensive game from both sides and think the team that plays the best in the 4th will win. I just hope their isn't any injuries and this will be a SB preview of sorts.
