I don't think Jaelan Phillips is a Watt brother. I think he's a really good edge. In this class, clearly one of the best.
The concussions are scary. He's had four, though one was in Pop Warner. That makes him something like 3x more likely to get concussions. There are also ankle and wrist injuries.
But Miami didn't do this because they need him to have a 15 year career. I think 8 times out of 10, they probably let a guy go rather than pay mega-money to keep him on that 2nd or 3rd contract. It's the Patriot way. What they're getting with Jaelan Phillips is immediate impact, an immediate replacement for Shaq Lawson, and IMO an unusually savvy player especially relative to his physical tools, which are pretty good.
