Guys after I responded to a thread here I got thinking. Maybe we don't need a superstar qb. We just need someone to manage the game for us not win it. hand the ball off about 40-45 times a game and rely on the defense. Thats how much tallent we got we can just do that like the ravens of 2000 or the bears 2005. run-run-run-run-playaction-run-screen pass-run-run thats all we got to do.

whoever is our qb at the beginning of the season can do that duante or harrington or whoever

Well, we have a Superstar QB so I guess we have more then we need in your opinion.

Ur Right But We Need Our Franchize Qb To Take Us To The Next Level Because We Alwayse Fell Short With All The Other Qb Srubs We Had

We had one of those. His name was Jay Fiedler and eventually, you need your quarterback to make plays with the pass at times, and, well, most "Game Managers" usually lose the game when it's put on their shoulders through the air!. That's exactly what he did! Pick 6 the other way!

What the hell are yout talking about?
A. we have a superstar qb
b. our old coach tried that for several seasons...maybe you remember him...Dave Wandstet?

It doesn't work that well.

Aweful thread.

I agree with that. You need to have one that manages and can bring a little more when called upon. I think with Daunte Culpepper we have that quarterback and he is a superstar. Watch him and Chambers go nuts on teams.

What good does it do to have all those weapons (Chambers, Booker, McMichael, Welker, Campbell) if we are just going to run the ball. Oh and yea I almost forgot, we got this new QB this offseason named Daunte Culpepper who is the 5th highest rated passer of all time.

I read on this ESPN.com article that we averaged 11.5 plays per game that are considerd medium or deep routes. The 2004 Colts averaged 13 a game so that tells you that our new offense is setup for play makers. We have all the weapons to do that too.

My last point is, remember the Wanny years when we would go into the December swoon? That was because we ran the ball 40 times a game and got our guys tired. Our defense was always tired out because we never put up any points and they were relied on to make stops after numerous 3 and outs. I wouldn't want to go back to that style.

Wannstedt, please dont post under primetime23 anymore. Get your own sign on name and quit trying to convince the Dolfans that your "plan" would have worked for us!

its not an awful thread. Since people are going crazy saying ''whos going to take over for duante if he can't go''. It's not that big of a deal who takes over for duante with the talent we got

Good points. Nice to see someone doing their homework.

you need that top qb to be able to make smart desisions and make those game winning plays. you cant just rely on the run in todays nfl u need a vertical game. i say this because d cordnators will eat u alive if u run the ball 90-10 % ratio and u would never win.

A team can and will only go so far with a game manager "Jay Fiedler" it's the good qbs that take his team to the next step or level, plus Miami would have to have a "great" defense, a defense of the decade like th Ravens had that one superbowl year in order to go to the superbowl with a mediocre qb. Miami doesn't have and hasn't quite a defense like that, nor has anyother team except for the bucs when they won. Miami's defense was good the past years, but it truly has to be dominant to go to the superbowl with that style of offense and philosphy.

Look at the last superbowls Brady and Rothesburg both are not just solid Qbs they are Stars

I disagree, Roethlisberger is no where near stardom yet as far as a statistical quarterback. He simply turned around and handed it to Parker, Staley, or Bettis most of the time and relied on his stellar defense to win games. Ben is a good quarterback, but being on the Steelers makes him look a lot better than he really is.
