Miami trade offers: Whoaa!!! This is not good...

I assume by your post that you know something the rest of us don't. Here's what we do know. Jerry prior to his injury was thought to be at least adequate, Cogs was at least average, and Clabo was a new addition thought to be at least a decent short term plug. And of course there was the flirtation with Albert and Winston, so I believe it a bit disingenuous to say he didn't try.

Now lets be clear, I have been an Ireland basher off and on, but as you recall, we did play pretty hard in the FA market and evidently the team consensus, as evidenced by the contract terms you speak of, was to go with what they thought was an adequate or average o-line this year and then upgrade that talent, if needed, next year.

I believe this to be a team decision rather than resting solely on the shoulders of Ireland. It's seems pretty clear to me, based on the preferences in personnel by this coaching staff, that Philbin and company writes the grocery list and Ireland goes shopping. Ireland doesn't seem to be forcing unwanted players on an impotent staff.

So really your post is a bit inaccurate, and honestly, faulting someone for realizing things aren't working out as planned and exploring solutions is illogical.

I would say, he is doing exactly what he should be doing. Recognizing the problem, then trying to fix it. And frankly, for all we know, he may be trying to fix something HE wanted fixing prior to the start on the season, but was convinced otherwise.

I only know what I saw from last season: an offensive team that had an offensive line that had a broken down left tackle, a right tackle who was a turnstile, and guards who were unfit for the type of offense our head coach wants to run. On top of that we had the worse wide receiving corp in the league, having traded an all-pro wide receiver for a draft pick used to select a kid who was possibly the worse Dolphins high round draft pick in the last decade. And who put that team together? Jeff Ireland. He spent megamillions last year on a wide receiver who has not yet worked out and on middle of the road linebackers and did nothing to improve the o-line. There are those who anticipate and those who respond. Jeff Ireland is a responder. He is never ahead of events, only responding to needs when they become critical and when the cost to fix them is more than it should be to fix. [And I haven't even mentioned letting Bush go to Detroit and replacing him with the pedestrian talent that is now in our backfield.] So, now when there is no talent left on the market to be had and the overaged mediocrities that are available are going to cost us future second round draft picks Jeff Ireland decides that he needs to fix his offensive line? And we're supposed to be impressed with this leadership?

I just think MJD is tired of running for a team that's going nowhere, fast. If any one player needs a change of scenery, I think MJD does, and I think it would do a world of difference for him. Could just be me hoping, but I'm just thinking as a competitor, "why would I want to keep running...for nothing?". Granted, he's getting a paycheck, I just don't think that's his primary focus right now. He wants a chance in the playoffs.

LOL @ people who possibly believe MJD would command a high draft pick.

We're talking about a player who hasnt really shown anything in a couple of years and is on the last year of a contract. I dont see how it takes more than a late round pick to get him. I know I wouldnt offer anything more than a 6th or 7th rounder for him at this point.

Also, Martin is a natural LT. He is not a RT. We cant keep switching him around. I would be all for trading for a competent RT however. In fact, I see it as almost a must at this point. Clabo is a disaster.
clabo is a disaster but the weakest tackle in the league was getting picked up in that ravens game...he cannot play the most important spot on the line if he can be bull rushed like that...Id rather see jerry at LT...at least if he gets in your way you cant push him...

Why wouldn't you guys want MJD for a 3rd day pick? Sure he isn't what he used to be but he could bring a lot of leadership to our young backfield. As others have mentioned, he has nothing to play for on an 0-6 Jags team in which he has endured long and heavy work loaded seasons. Put him on a team, ANY team, with a chance to win or compete, I almost can guarantee a reinvigorated MJD. He's at the point in his career where money isn't the sole issue, he wants and in my opinion, deserves, a chance to compete. I still think he has something left in the tank and can contribute out of the backfield in ways that we are lacking currently like catching the ball, screen passes, etc.

I'd be ecstatic if we somehow landed him or could somehow just trade DT for him.

MJD has a lot of mileage, and it adds up quickly for RBs. Unless the O line gets going I think adding him would be a negligible difference.

I believe your disdain for Ireland is clouding your perception of events. While I have to preface again the fact that I have been a basher of his from time to time, we have to take into account the Philbin game plan and a probable time schedule.

Ireland has had to switch gears from one style of coaching philosophy to another and that includes the personnel packages. It is true that the GM's job is to gather the right players for the coaching staff and their requirements, however, it is equally true that the GM, the coaching staff and even the cap specialists all have input as to who, what, where and when. There is absolutely no evidence Ireland has made any recent personnel moves without the knowledge, request, blessing and or participation of these other staffers.

I have no problem if you want to say, "the organization" handled this poorly.

Maybe they had more confidence in their players, maybe they were looking at the dollar amounts, maybe they wanted to take the upgrades one step at a time, or maybe they didn't like the talent available. I'm not sure we'll ever really know, but again, Ireland is a part of decision making process and this process with this staff does not appear to be a dictatorship as it was with Fat Tuna and Fist Pumper.

Also: It's not a matter of being impressed with Ireland, it's simply a matter of acknowledging that as bad as things may look right now, if it's true he's trying to fix them, he's doing what he's supposed to do. Not trying would be worse.

This thread can probably die. If we were going to trade for anyone, It probably would have happened by now. Im thinking we actually bring someone up from the PS.

Or maybe they are still haggling in the negotiation...

So I guess we're not acquiring anyone for this week, seeing how its Thursday already.

He's not breaking to many tackles this season with a 3 yard per carry average, on pace for the worst of his Nfl career.

His average of 5.5 yards per pass completion is also on pace to be the worst of his NFL career

almost 1000 rushes in a 3 year period has sucked the life out of his legs

He's done stick a fork in him

like I said,, he'd be better than what we have.. whats miller's average 1.2 ?

Actually Millers is 4.2. Jones Drew is 3.0. So if you want to go by averages, like you are speaking to above, Miller is 10x's better than MJD.
