With all the losses our roster has suffered (14 releases and 2 traded players) and we only signed 4 new players ... how will we be compensated by the NFL ??? I have no clue how the NFL does the maths to determine what compensation do teams get for their losses so i'm asking to everyone, maybe brett, boomer or CK would know, what will we get next year ??? does it depend on the lost players' performances next year or is it just a matter of number of players lost/gained during offseason ??? ..... Getting a 3rd round compensation would be pretty neat .. any chance we get one ?

Teams don't recieve any compensation for players who are released.

You are not compensated for releasing players, only for free agents that sign elsewhere. If you release them it's your own doing, you don't get picks. Same goes for trades.

okay !! didn't knew that...so who's our free agents who signed elsewhere (who will count for compensation )... david bowens, macintosh... who else ?

Lemme see.

The ones that sign to another team is...

David Bowens
Toniu Fonoti
Jeff Zgonina
Darian Barnes
Travis Minor
Damion McIntosh
Sammy Morris

this system is rather complicated.
In order to get compensatory picks the guys that you didn't resign(NOT Cut, or waive, players cut or waived have NO BEARING whatsoever in comp picks) need to be signed by other clubs to LARGE contracts and then they need to perform to high levels. They weigh this (Contracts, performance levels, quntity) vs the exact same data from the guys you signed...as of right now here is how it looks:

These are the guys who's contracts expired and were signed by another team:
Damion Mcintosh- Signed a six year deal with the chiefs. STARTER
Sammy Morris- Signed with the Patriots.
Travis Minor-Signed with the rams
Darian Barnes-signed with the jets
David Bowens-signed 3 year contract with the jets. Possible starter.
Toniu Fonoti- Signed with atlanta
Jeff Zgonina- Signed with houston

Guys we signed who's performance and salary will be counted against us:
Joey porter- 5 Years contract. Starter
Jay Feeley- 3 year contract. Starter
David Martin- 3 year contract. Starter
Cammeron Worrel- 2 year contract. ST's

At this point we would probably receive nothing. Porter will nullify out D-mac, David martin nullifies Bowens, and Minor, morris, and barnes prolly will nullify Feeley. Right now we have to hope for a few things.
1. We need Keith adams and Kendyl jacox to sign with new teams.
2. Our departed need to win starting roles. Best chances go to Fonoti, Bowens, and barnes.
3. D-mac needs to make the pro bowl.
4. It sounds horrible, but the guys we signed can't make a pro-bowl, and they can't rack up good stats....so i'de rather just hope our departed do better...

Once again. CUT, or TRADED players have no bearing upon compensatory picks so don't even bring up Mcmike, or mare, or harrington....

Does Joey Porter count? He was released.

Joey Porter..not a FA

didn't Pittsburg cut Joey porter and then we signed him...

I'm guessing that once again the Dolphins will be without a comp pick. We are one of the teams to receive the fewest comp picks in the NFL.

Actually we have a much better chance getting a pick this year than last year so far...i just don't see a third rounder coming out anytime soon. Right now i'm guessing we are lined up for a 6-7th, it all depends however on the conract details, and the performance threshholds reached by our departed players...

Does anyone else think that this compensatory pick system is ridiculous? Why should a team benefit through extra picks for not being able to sign as many players as they lost? Every team has the same salary cap so in theory they should be able to manage their rosters equally (of course in reality some GM's do a better job at this than others but still).

Personally, I just think it is stupid to hand out extra draft picks for any reason including this.
