Michael Finley Signs With Spurs

I'm starting to get the feeling that aging vets are more more going to join what I like to call the "Karl Malone" effect. That is, joining a team who seems to be best suited to win a ring this year. Not that I don't think Van Exel and now Finley will help the Spurs, I just think its more beneficial for them to join the Spurs than the Spurs to have them on their roster.

Finley is going to be great in San Antonio, he's a class act. Van Exel I don't really understand because he's a shooter and they signed Bret Barry last year for that purpose (plus Parker and Ginobli aren't to bad themselves), plus he doesn't really fit into the Spurs reputation (Pop doesn't like players like Van Exel, or at least I thought he didn't). Finley's addition only makes the Spurs the favorites to re-peat even more and right now I think their head and shoulders above the other teams in the West. If coach K doesn't want to coach Team USA in 08 (he's the favorite) I think Popovich should get the gig!

Thats a shame, oh well at least I'll get my wish to see Posey start now.

Spurs look strong but he should of went to the Heat they were giving him more money and they look like the team this year with all there offeason pick-ups.

Oh well, would've been nice...We still improved from last year. I'm sure we'll meet in the finals.

Parker is very shaky as a PG. He goes into spells every year where he disappears, especially in the playoffs. Van Exel gives them that depth at point they lack, plus another clutch shooter to go along with Robert Horry. I hate the Spurs but I love these two moves.

Man I can't stand Van Exel, I hope the guy never wins a title. He's been the most overpaid guy in the league for years. How many times did this guy get traded as salary cap filler? Im surprised they picked him up, he's been nothing more than a roster spot for years.
The Finely move is great for the Spurs, hes exactly the type of player any team needs. Hes not a complainer and will take a lesser role to win a title.
Parker does tend to disappear at times they could use someone else at the point, Im just not sure how Van Exel helps a team anymore, his attitude and play just arent very good anymore.

put it this way finfansince72, if Van Exel pulls the crap he did at some of his other stops, Pop will bounce him out of San Antonio faster then Michael Johnson running the 200. Van Exel needs the Spurs for a ring more then they need him to win another one. He needs to remember that. I don't think Pop would have signed off on this unless he had trust that Van Exel was going to be a model citizen for them. Pop knows what he's doing, he's proved it over and over again!

He was great as a 6th Man to the Mavs a couple years ago, when they made their run to the WCF. Some questioned whether he should start over Nash at the time, but he was much better as the 6th man.

Now, as a Mavs fan, I must say don't expect much from Finley. He hurt us more than he helped us in the post season. He still throws up those same stupid shots, but now barely any go in.

Pretty dumb move by Finley...but this smells like he just wanted to stay in Texas.....

In San Antonio he gets very little playing time...In Miami...He starts....Both teams are championship contenders, but the Heat has the easier road to the finals.....

I guess...home is where the heart is....

The Heat now needs to go after Gerald Wallace.......I love his game....and he fits perfectly on this team.....

Damon Jones now becomes a must re-sign for us.....

I guess Van Exel isn't going to hurt the Spurs because they really don't need him to win. If he proves to be a problem then he just won't play. Still, I just do not see why any team making a serious run at the title wants him. Sorry but his history of coachkilling and teamkilling are just too lengthy for me to look at his one year with the Mavs and say he's a changed man. Hes just not a team guy, I would never want him on any team I root for. I am rooting heavily against the Spurs now, I never want to see Van Exel winning at title, he doesnt deserve one, not even as a backup.
