There are a lot of directions Miami could go with their first pick. The Brandon Albert injury may also have an impact as I could see the Dolphins taking another offensive lineman in R1, potentially even trading up for the right player. Plenty of needs here. Miami needs a good, young corner with size. A running back to complement Lamar Miller would be nice. A stud offensive guard is an obvious need and linebacker is still a need, but maybe not as major as we think with the development of Jenkins. Misi, while not great, seems okay in the middle. Would be nice to have an impact linebacker. Anyway, here goes Mock 1.
1. DeVante Parker WR. Louisville --- What's the best way to make a young quarterback even better? Surround him with talent. The Dolphins defense, while certainly needing some additional talent, is championship caliber. Miami's offense, on the other hand, is still a work in progress. The team has struggled in the redzone and part of that reason IMO in not having that bigger receiver/tight end to throw to in those situations. I don't see a tight end that I like in round 1, but Parker would be perfect for this offense. Not only is he 6-3, but Parker uses his body well and wins those battles with the ball in the air. I think he has a chance to be a real force in this offense.
2. Quinton Rollins CB, Miami (OH) --- A bigger corner at 6-0 who is just scratching the surface of his potential. Rollins can learn for a year behind the likes of Brent Grimes and Courtney Finnegan. Another possibility here might be Marcus Peters, but the Dolphins are less likely to gamble on character than other teams. At some point, maybe late 1st round, Peters ability will outweigh his off-the-field stuff (Seattle?).
3. Hroniss Grasu C/OG, Oregon --- Grasu is a little undersized, but his experience in Oregon's fast paced offense could make his transition pretty smooth in Miami. Grasu could play guard or center for the Dolphins and is a player who fits the zone blocking scheme.
4. Karlos Williams RB, Florida State --- Williams has had a somewhat disappointing season at Florida State after being hyped as a potential first or second round pick. That said, Williams has a nice combination of size and speed to complement Lamar Miller.
5. Michael Orakpo OLB, Texas State --- An injury ended his senior season and will certainly affect his draft status. Orakpo, though, has talent to work with including speed in the 4.6 range.
6. Tyler Lockett, WR Kansas State -- I could see Lockett, with his speed and ability to return kicks, going earlier than this. But, it's certainly possible that he drops a little bit. Lockett has had some key drops, but he also has big-play ability and, at the very least, could be an ideal return man.
7. Ian Silberman, OT Boston College -- A 6-5 developmental offensive tackle from a school with very good success putting offensive linemen in the NFL.
