Reports indicate that Mike James is close to agreeing to terms with the Houston Rockets. James lives in Houston and has expressed a desire to return to Texas ...

:woot:

He is the only guy we are targeting right now because we want to make sure he doesn't go anywhere else. Looks like it is gonna pay off.

So if we can sign him, then our lineup should look like this

PG- Mike James
SG- Really don't have anybody here right now, but Luther Head could take this spot.
SF- T-Mac
PF- Juwan Howard
C- Yao Ming

If we can get ourselves a good shooting 2 guard and if T-mac and Yao stay healthy, then this is a 50 win team right here IMO.

Keith Bogans might be coming back aswell for a bench role.

I'm liking that line-up already. I'd like to see us go after a solid 2 in FA. No sure what's going to happen with the Gay/Swift/Battier deal. If Battier does infact come to Houston, I have to think that he'll get the start over Howard. If not, does Gay have the talent to push Howard for starting minutes?

The deal that was offered is rumored to be worth 30 million over 5 years.

You know I forgot to add Battier in there.

T-Mac can play the 2 and the 3. Battier can play the 3 and the 4, but I don't really feel all that safe with Battier playing the 4. That's just me though.

But now we have so many different ways what the starting lineup can look like. PG and C are the only ones with a lock to who will start(James or Alston, depending if a deal is done with James and Yao).

So here is what our many lineup options can look like...

PG- Mike James
SG- T-Mac
SF- Shane Battier
PF- Juwan Howard
C- Yao Ming

PG- Mike James
SG- Luther Head(as of right now because we have nobody left)
SF- T-Mac
PF- Shane Battier
C- Yao Ming

IMO, Battier is a lock to be in the starting lineup. The question will be where he will start at. Van Gundy likes to have good defnesive players on the court as much as possible.

I always liked McGrady at the 2 but he's been performing well at the 3. I do fully expect us to go after a 2 in FA but moving T-Mac back to the 2 and (assuming) putting Battier at the 3 would work well. If the deal doesn't go through, does Gay get a shot to start at the 3?

As much as I would love for Gay to be in our starting lineup, it's not gonna happen.

99.9/100 the deal will go through and if some freakish way it doesn't, then we will likely be trading Gay to another team.

Van Gundy doesn't want to have anything to do with Gay on this team and we picked Gay because Memphis wanted him, not us. This deal was already gonna happen way if Gay was still there when we picked and he was, so the deal went down. We picked Gay because Memphis wanted him and we wanted Battier.

Good move for the rockets if they can get this done...imo maybe not 50 wins but definitely in the playoffs

PG Mike James
SG TMAC
SF Shane Battier
PF Juwan Howard
C Yao Ming
Bench Luther Head
Bench Rafer Alston

So what about Swift? Do we have to keep his big @$$ contract because he won't go back to Mem.? Do we bring a 3rd team into the mix? Personally I really like moving him to free up some cap space and bring in a couple of roleplayers in FA, maybe strengthen our bench a little.

Swift doesn't want to go back to the Grizzlies. He is the reason why this deal needs another team for a 3 way trade.

But with a 3 way trade, we woulc be getting another player in return with Battier.

Budd, you stole my post.

I was just about to say, shouldn't the Rockets move T-Mac to the 2 and haved Shane Battier at the 3?

I think that makes the most sense. Luther Head would be better coming off the bench.

I think the James, T-Mac, Battier, Howard and Yao lineup will work fine, but Van Gundy wants T-Mac to play the 3 instead of the 2.

I don't really see why though. I think that T-Mac does a fine job at guarding the 2.

Wow, this would be a great addition for the Rockets. Maybe they should go after Bonzi if no deal is done with Shane Battier.

If I was the Rockets I would rather start Alston! I am a Raptors fan and was more pleased with the way Alston was running the team just his attitude was garbage! I think James is the better talent he just needs to learn to spread the ball around better because he takes to much shots especially in clutch time but Im sure T-Mac will make sure that doesn't happen and the Raptors did lack a go to shooter as soon as Vince left so maybe that is why James thought he can become a bit of a ballhog! Just watch what James does if T-Mac goes down you can even quote me as saying James will become a ballhog if T-Mac isn't there keeping him in check!
