Found this in an article from the Milwaukee paper:

"Matt's had a chance to play versus New England, versus Detroit," coach Mike McCarthy said. "But based on what I see in the everyday classroom, practice field, he's ready. It's his time to play.

"And you don't ever know. You don't ever know if a backup quarterback can take that next step and go out and play 16 games. I know mentally he's ready, emotionally he's definitely ready, but until you play the position and go play those 1,100, 1,200 snaps, that's when you really find out."

I know what really matters is what Philbin thinks about him, but McCarthy had some good things to say about Flynn. Then again what else is he going to say publicly? What do you guys think?

McCarthy said it best . . . "you don't know". It is certainly different watching a guy play well in spot games over a guy mentally preparing for a 16 game season as the starter. You can never predict how that is gonna turn out.

It would be criminal if Miami didn't atleast try to find a solution. You can't hit homeruns if you don't swing at pitches. I'm nervous about Flynn also but atleast this isn't Ireland/Sparano throwing him a deal and it's a guy who has been tied with him in Green Bay since he came into the league. That definitely gives me more confidence than I would have had in recent years.

You don't know about any player. Jamarcus Russell was pretty much the consensus #1 pick. Every player, free agent or draft pick is a leap of faith. It just depends how much money you are willing to put behind your faith.

What's ironic is that in another related thread, Moore, who happens to be one of the NFL leading long ball passers was criticized for not being able to throw one in comparison to Flynn.

Lots of good things about Flynn on this CBS draft analysis (consistent with several others I've read) that you can read from
this link, but if someone's gonna take Moore to task for his long ball, and it's important to them, they might think twice or thrice about Flynn :idk:

Negatives: Has good accuracy in the short area, but does not have the arm strength to consistently air the ball out … Sometimes telegraphs throws, as he tends to pat it before throwing … Shows good mobility on the move, but is more of a straight-line runner who does not have the change-of-direction agility to quickly hit the cutback lane … Can make some of his deep throws, but those attempts lack velocity and zip to keep it away from the defenders … Needs to develop more consistency coming over the top with his delivery, as he tends to wind up a bit … His release point is low, resulting in a fair share of passes being deflected … When he steps into throws, he is adequate firing in the seams, but lacks velocity … Needs to work on putting the ball out in front of the target on deep routes … Has good bulk, but lacks the ideal height you look for in a quarterback … Has good mobility and is not the type that gets "happy feet," but will more often than not run with the ball rather than sidestep when meeting up with the blitz … Had a string of at least one turnover seven consecutive games … Most of those picks came when he generated a bit of a wind-up in his over-the-top release.

Looks like another painful season for Phinz fans......another noodle arm is coming to town :-(

This guy can't beat out Moore. Not only Moore more talented physically but his teammates enjoy playing with him.

That NFLDraftScout.com analysis was from five years ago.

I think Greg Cosell gives a better analysis of present day Flynn.
How does this relate to Matt Flynn in 2012? Flynn, at 6-foot-2, does not possess prototypical size. He has above-average arm strength, nothing more. There are power throws he will struggle to make, like deep digs at 18-22 yards, or deep comebacks. In fact, these are not throws you would ask Flynn to make. The bottom line: Flynn is not a top-level passer.

His attributes, based on film breakdown of his two NFL starts, derive from his talent as a timing and rhythm passer who’s decisive with his reads and throws, and has shown good accuracy in the short to intermediate areas. He’s primarily a plant-and-throw quarterback who makes good decisions, and delivers the ball on time. One thing I liked was his pocket movement. He showed the ability to slide and maintain his downfield focus. That’s a far more important trait than running out of the pocket.

Flynn, I believe, can be a successful NFL starter, but — and here’s where the Walsh archetype comes into play — he must be carefully manipulated by the schematics of the passing game, and helped by the play-calling.
