Veteran center Mike Pouncey, who missed his first game as a pro this weekend when a gallbladder infection landed him in the hospital. Doctors are trying to fight the infection with medication, according to NFL Network's Jeff Darlington, in an effort to avoid surgery. If it's successful, Pouncey could return to the team much sooner than if removing the gallbladder is required.

There's no indication if Pouncey will or will not be available this weekend as the Dolphins host the Carolina Panthers.

I bet the meds calm it down. What kind of shape is he in to play though?

dudes, I work with a 70 year old doc who had a cholecystectomy on Friday and came back to work the next Monday. He should have had the surgery first thing and sped up his return.

Yeah, it only takes about a week to recover from a gall bladder surgery. I would be more concerned with abdominal adhesions that could develop if subjected to weekly trauma after the operation. Those totally suck.

Everyone is different when it comes to surgery. I understand football players are superior athletes and in the best possible shape. But this game is much different that going to your office right after gall bladder surgery.

On average, the doctor will order three weeks of rest following this surgery depending of course as to what you do for a living. My daughter went back after two weeks and really had a rough time. Her profession is very strenuous.

She too tried to postpone surgery and was successful for almost 1 year, before she HAD to have the surgery.
To think a professional football player can return in one week or even two weeks is short sighted.

I would be willing to bet, if Pouncey does have the surgery, that will end his season and that is likely why they are trying to postpone surgery.

John Jerry in the best possible shape? Lulz.

I felt like I fully recovered from gall bladder surgery in less than three days. I just felt a little sore. The only issues I had was being careful what kind of foods I ate for a couple months after surgery. But every person is different. I know I didn't have 300 pound guys slamming me around so I just hope he makes a smart decision. If Nate Garner has to go the rest of his way in Pouncey's place, this may be a good thing as we are going to need some experienced lineman for next season.
