..I'm just not sure if it will be for our Dolphins though.

After the Rooney's interview their candidates, the Pittsburgh media waits for the candidate outside the office to start questioning them about how the interview went, what he has to offer, what he expects, what he likes about the team, and etc.

I just watched that video and was impressed by his answers. He is very well spoken, young at 34 years old, and had a great year calling plays for a defense that gave up the least amount of yards on the ground [their secondary was pretty banged up all season long].

I also loved this quote:
"In a parity league, you have to concentrate on the things that take no talent, and master the core football values like playing hard, playing fast, and finishing."

It's quite obvious he understands that the mastery of fundamentals seperate the winning teams from the losers.

This guy is going to be a good coach, I'm just not sure if he's the guy Wayne Huizenga may be looking for, because more than likely, Wayne just wants a Head Coach he can give full control while he stands back and prays that everything goes well.

Tomlin and Schottenheimer are the Obamas of the NFL coaching fraternity

I think Wisenhut and Tomlin are my two top choices. In that order.

Tomlin and Cameron are still my top 2.

Give me Tomlin and Schottenheimer as my top two.

I think this team needs an infusion of youth. It would be like a B-12 shot every hour. Instead of the Geritol this team keeps needing.

Tomlin is moving up the charts. He's in my top 5 now, and the more I think about bringing in a young up and comer, the more I like it. No more dinosaurs!!

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I'm glad you posted this. I mentioned Tomlin as one of my top 4 coaching canidates for this team yesterday in the draft forum. He's going to be a great head coach one day. He's young, and hungry. He wants to be a head coach.

Good find! The guy looks like he has class and talent. I don't think the Rooneys have to worry about finding a replacement for Cowher between Tomlin and Weisenhunt.

After reading the Schottenheimer article, I think you're right. I'd put him second behind Tomlin and bump Cameron down to 3rd.

Also dont forget that the Rooneys have a great track record when it comes to finding and hiring HC. And in their search for a new HC they have only brought in 2 guys from the outside: Tomlin, and Rivera.

if it's tomlin who is a diciple of dungy's cover 2 defense, does that mean we will go back to the 4-3? i like the 3-4 a lot more.

Uhhh they have brought someone else from the outside as well. Chan Gailey also was interviewed by the Steelers.

i'd like to make a small case for Mike Tomlin...

Tomlin was the defensive backs coach for the Bucaneers from 2001-2005. During his time there, the pass defense was ranked 6th, 1st, 3rd, 1st and 6th. Before he got there, under Coach Dungy, the pass defense was ranked 4th, 11th, 2nd, 2nd and 15th. Good, but clearly better under Tomlin. And this past year, they were ranked 19th.

Think of players like Dexter Jackson and Dwight Smith making those huge plays in the Super Bowl. Jackson's first two years in the league, he didn't do much. A few tackles, but nothing really. In 2001, Tomlin's first year, Jackson started every game (except one due to injury) and recorded 4 INTs and 2.5 sacks, and had 66 tackles. In 2002 he had 3 INTs and 71 tackles, plus that great Super Bowl. Dwight Smith became one of the best nickelbacks in the league as a rookie in 2001 under Tomlin, and was really good in '02, capping it off with the two TD's in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Then you have Ronde Barber, who snagged 10 INT's in 2001, Tomlin's first year. Brian Kelly intercepted 8 passes in '02, and had 8 in '04-'05. Not bad considering he had 3 career INT's in 4 seasons before Tomlin came along.

Soo....it looks like Mike Tomlin is good with the secondary. I'm not sure how to explain this past season with the Vikings though. Technically he's not the d-backs coach now; Joe Woods is, who was defensive quality control coach with the Bucs with Tomlin last year. I'll think of it as an anomaly though, looking at his resume with the Bucs.

And for those who worry about the potential hire of Tomlin meaning we'll adopt the Cover-2, read this:
At Tampa Bay Tomlin coached alongside Tony Dungy, Monte Kiffin, and Rod Marinelli learning the Cover 2 defense that many people refer to as "Tampa 2" system. At Minnesota he has instilled this system but has blitzed much more than typical of the system, in order to utilize his player's strengths and pressure the quarterback more.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press: "Teams are realizing the Vikings aren't using the Tampa 2 too much. Sure, it's their base defense, but the Vikings mix in plenty of other schemes: Cover 1 (man-to-man coverage), a three-deep zone and zone blitzes. Really, the Vikings mostly use the Cover 2 in long third-down situations or when they're protecting a lead."
Sounds like the kinda guy willing to adapt to his personnel. :D
