The glaring problem to me on defense vs the Panthers was our coaching staff. When 2 SS who were playing close to the line were trying to track down McCafferty from behind I thought, “where was a the FS?” Then I remembered we don’t have one. When Torrey ran the slowest hitch pattern on 3rd, but was still wide open for a 3rd down conversion against McCain, “I thought a hitch on the side line is foreign to a nickel CB.” When our LBs our swallowed up on running plays, and RBs don’t get touched till 3-4 yards past the line I thought, “we have two weak side LB and no SAM.” When our DEs look to be in pass rush mode on running plays I thought, “we run a wide 9.”

It’s game 2 of preseason, and I’m not in panic mode, but this just seems like common sense. Minkah was all over the feild, and looked great at FS last week so let’s let him play there. Bobby McCain had his best year last season at NCB, so let him play there. It just seems like we keep getting good peices but try to put them in the wrong place.

Not disagreeing with the premise ... but what exactly was McCain doing in the nickel last season?

McCain is a pretty good nickle. IMO when they moved him to boundary they weakened two positions. McCain can't match up with bigger receivers, and he's quicker than he is fast which is why he does well in the nickle. Fitz is a future elite type FS. He's not bad in the nickle, but not even close to what he is as a FS.

Burke is just not good enough to use the talent he has. The base needs to have Fitz, Jones, and McMillian in it. I think Miami should look to trade Alonzo. His freelancing is killing the LB's and really the entire defense. I saw him run himself out of position at least 4 times. His act is growing old on me, but he's a yes man to the coaches so Gase wont do anything with him...

'Had his best head' is what I was referring to.

I agree. McCain needs to be the starting nickel cornerback and Fitzpatrick needs to be the starting free safety. I'm tired of these coaches playing some of the players out of position.

It lost me too. My mind went right to the gutter so I decided to make a bad joke. "Bobby McCain had his best head last season" is the sentence in question.
 
I didn't watch the game but I didn't need to know that Minkah needs to be our FS.

AHHHH, gotcha, I went and looked from the OP...I do need more coffee, or wait, I just watched the game, change that to a shot!!! ;)
 
I can tell you one thing that needs to stop...please stop the double stunts with the D-line. Complete waste of time and creates too many running lanes.

I am glad to see that we aren't lining our DEs up in left and right field this season. God I hated that look.
 
IMO the defense played improved from the Tampa game. If of our linebackers, Chase, Kiko, McMillian or Baker go down we have problems hope the front office is searching for answers.
