Alexi Lalas says ""The fact that a segment of the world worships an inferior product in the Premiership is their business."

Well, here is the LINK to the article. I'll never pass myself off as a super knowledgable soccer fan, although I played the sport from age 5 to age 16, the last 5 years at a pretty high level. I always watch the World Cup and Euro (my favorite tourney).

That said, I think Lalas is an idiot trying to get attention. Just my opinion.

The best MLS teams are as good at the bottom 1/3 of the Premiership IMO, but no more.

That is exactly right.

The premiership is too top heavy though, which makes it a weak league overall....but he best teams are as good as any in the world and would destroy the best the mls has consistently.

He is just trying to get some attention to the league thanks to talking big.... it is not going to work but Lalas will say stuff like this once in a while, we all kind of laugh it off, we know he is a nut.

That being said, MLS teams are not even able to beat the Mexican teams now, so they are far far far from the Premiership, which even though weak at the bottom are still leaps and bounds better than MLS... though the league is growing....

By the way, the Mets ownership is going to create a new New York team, Mets FC... I can't wait for that, I hate Red Bulls for taking the freaking corporate game (though I go to a lot of their games, nothing more fun than chanting that DC United went to Rome to see the pope, and this is what he said: **** OFF!!!!!)

Well said.

Here's the thing, though: that's still a significant improvement from about 10 years ago. 10 years ago, the best MLS teams would have been relegated, with no hope of even making the Premiership.

Lalas is doing a decent job of talking his league up. I think the top MLS sides would be in and around the playoff places in the Championship. No more, mo less.

I agree that the top MLS teams could compete with the bottom third of the EPL, but still would probably be battling against relegation. Lalas is just trying to talk up the league which has improved over the last decade, but is still not even close to being on par with the Premiership.

As a tribute to fellow dudes that are trying to make the most beautiful game more popular in this country:

LOL

What a complete and utter idiot. Not one single MLS team would survive in the Premiership and they would struggle in the Championship.

The only reason Beckham is going to LA is because of the money, if anyone thinks otherwise they are a mug. It's got nothing to do with the football.

Lalas is just talking ****. He is talking nonsense. EPL >>> MLS any day of the week.

Galaxy is sucking *** this year...but they have a decent squad on paper. They signed former Portugal NT Player Xavier and just signed Pavon from Honduras.

The problem that the Galaxy will face is that people will expect that all of a sudden Beckham is going to win them the league. But of course, he'll be playing with players who are poorer, quality wise, than anyone he's ever played with.

if you heard the interview, you'd know Lalas did not say that MLS is better than the EPL, he said that the lesser tams in the MLS could beat the elite teams; which you won't see in EPL (basically, he was talking up the parody).

Then he said that if you put some of te best players in the MLS in Euro situations (sold out games, crowd singing, the feelng that every game matters), they'd play better and the 5 best players in Europe would play worst in some of the American venues (rediculously large arenas half empty, pretty silent games)
