I'm not sure if this is being coached or we have forgotten that he can run. To help a line that is struggling in pass blocking allow him to roll our for crying out loud!:unsure::ponder::ponder:

This is true....for a "mobile" QB... I for the life of me can't remember Tanny ever breaking free from a almost sack and gaining yds.

I started another thread about this last night that got "crickets". I just don't get it. Why keep him in a straight drop-back all ****ing night long? Roll him out damn it. It will help.

I remember when Marino went up against some good D's...they would always adjust and start rolling him out...even with his bad knees! Makes a huge difference. The D can't just t-off then...

Do you guys understand to roll out you need a competent line?

He can run a little but, but he's a stiff.

He's not agile, he's not strong, he doesn't have good balance, he has slow terrible feet, and he has no explosiveness, it takes him. Along time for him to get his body moving forward. Thats why it seems on almost every sack he gets hit as soon as he tries to tuck the ball away.

His athletism is very overrated.

Tannehill is no Bob Griiffin.

You want to watch a QB w/ overrated athleticism.. Google Travis Wilson University of Utah. He ran like a cross between ostrich w/ a sprained ankle & a baby giraffe.

The problems is that while Tannehill has good legs, when he runs out of the pocket he turns his whole body the way he is running. If you watch the good scramblers, like Wilson, they stay facing downfield as much as possible. Tannehill turns his hips and shoulders instead of moving laterally, so he then has to turn his whole body again when he wants to throw it. This means it is easy to get a read on where he will throw when he leaves the pocket - it is almost always to the sideline because that is the only place he can see. He also has to take time to turn his shoulders again, which means that the D can get a jump on the ball. This is the reason that Philbin and co resisted rolling him out - he gets extraordinarily one dimensional because his body position is wrong.

He is athletic, but as a former WR he has great straight line speed, not the sort of short range mobility you really need as a QB to escape pressure.

I'm not big on a lot of rollouts, maybe 2-3 per game wouldn't hurt. But archer101 is absolutely correct. Subtle lateral moves while he keeps his eyes downfield would go a long way to helping the team and make the line look a lot better. He is a huge contributer to being the most sacked QB in the NFL. You can't have tunnel vision in the NFL, you need eyes in the side of your head if not the back of your head.
