1 - Clay Matthews OLB - Clay is a solid upgrade over roth, and since the Peezy's position seems to be only pass rush, we need a good all round LB. Matthews can also line up at DE like roth did sometimes last year, since he played some with his hand in the dirt at USC.. Parcells might like English or Barwin here, but i think it's a vital position needing to be upgraded, if cushing or mau slip, we'll pick them up to take ayodele's job..

2a (Skins) - Brian Robiskie - WR You can't wait for him in 2b. This guy might be the best route runner along with Brandon Gibson, but Robiskie has about 4 inches on Gib. His Pro Day and combine impressed alot of people, and with his father alos being a coach, no way his son is a diva WR like in Buffalo..

2b - Jairus Byrd - CB He's got great size at 6'0, 200. He is quite physical and we'd be lucky if he winded up here, which he will since Alphonso Smith, DJ Moore and Sean Smith might get drafted mid-late 2nd round as the whole CB class slips..

3 - Andy Levitre - G - This guy is arguably the top gaurd in the class. Extremely nasty and strong and can get upfield qucikly for blocks.. He'll beef up that interior giving us another option in case Thomas/Smiley go down again.. even though our interior might look solved with berger and grove getting signed, dont be suprised if a guy like levitre comes in to solidify the position. Levitre in 3rd round is great value, and with Smiley/Thomas/Levitre/Satele/Berger/Alleman/Grove/SMurphy, we should be pretty set and better not get pushed around by teams like the Ravens next year.

4 - Chris Baker - NT - He's been rising up draft board into the third round for some people. If we can get him here then we'll be pretty lucky. I think teams will be reaching for NT's early, there is a large league wide need for 320+lbers...

5 - Franz Joesph - ILB - An instinctual tackler and hitter, he is a poor mans Ray Lewis. He looks huge on tape, and is a local boy that gives us excellent value.. Even if he goes 4th round for some team, they are getting a steal. NASTY player.

7a(Browns) - Don Carey - CB - Small school product from Norfolk State. He's got good ball skills and is a pretty fast dude. He suprised alot of people at Senior Bowl but did not participate at Combine. Could be a tight man coverage guy.

7b (Carolina) - Brandon Tate - WR - Talented WR went down with nasty ACL injury. Is almost fully recovered, but should be able to fully contribute in camp. Before injury was a 2nd round pick type, someone might snap him up earlier if he impresses in private workouts.
*Assuming we traded our 7th rounder for McDaniels, no way we give up Browns and Jags might have complained into getting a pick about 4 before us. Either way the 7b, 7c were expendable..

Whatcha Think? I hope Mau, Vontae or Cushing slip to us!
 
I like though I would go with Nicks in the first. then follow that with either Paul Kruger or C Barwin. I think you get a better WR and add a player to the defense that would be just as good as Matthews.
I'd add another CB in the 4th instead of a NT....

having said that, over all good mock...
 
Not a big fan. First pick is good. Clay, Baker, Joseph and Tate are the solid ones IMO
 
love the byrd and 7th round picks. not a big fan of the robiskie pick, getting an o lineman that high when we have more pressing needs, and totally whiffing on the safety position - but you can tell you did some research. not too bad.

Very good but just how is Mathews a solid upgrade over Roth? He has only started 12 games in his career, has less sacks in his career than Roth had last year and has only started 1 year.

Levitre has no chance here, good player, too small, arms too short will end up at center somewhere like the Broncos or Texans.

Love 2a and 2b though.

I think Roth could use an upgrading becuase he can't get to the passer very well, sucks in coverage, is good against run, but mostly, is vastly undersized. Roth's transition was better than i expected, i also believe he will be a OLB in the league, permanently...
Thats true about clay's 12 games... However, you can't argue his versatility, his NFL pedigree, and the fact that he's been maybe one of the most impressive in the combine this year, barwin might be a tad more impressive, physically.

as for levitre, i wanted another guard, and i've seen some site having him in early 4th, and some in 2nd round.. mostly third.. I guess i didn't know about him arms, but he isn't small.. I still think he'd help upgrade an interior that stunk it up last year..

yeah i was thinking about it and it just never happened.. 7th rounders are just suggestions, as long as it weren't higher than a 5th rounder i'm okay with that..

OT prospects with LT experience we could be looking at are Joel Bell, Ramon Foster, Jason Watkins, etc... i don't know much about the backup LT class, i do agree that we need solid backup T depth
 
I am not a big fan of any team picking someone who has started for just 1 year with their 1st round selection. To me, it's a huge gamble that cannot be justified. He may be a good player, but experience counts, and he doesn't have a lot of it.

You are scaring me, "but mostly (Roth) is vastly undersized"?!?!?! The guy is listed at 6'4" 270 which is taller than Mathews and nearly 30 pounds heavier! If anything Roth is too big! Roth's job #1 is to stop the run and he does nearly as well as any SOLB in the league. Outside of 2 guys he had more sacks than his peers.

Levitre is 6'2" 305, too small.

I think that will be way down the list. I believe they actually like there depth as Gardner they signed through 2012 and Frye is is a Restricted FA. Long & Carey how been models of playing time.
