Jake Long T Michigan
He's a talented player who fills a need for our team. he might not be the best value at 1 overall, but you have to play the hand you're dealt, and in my opinion his selection gives us flexibility in later rounds which offsets some of the huge salary he's likely to command, furthermore, there is relatively little salary invested in our oline, so this doesnt lock up too much of our cap space in one area. Plus if Parcells and Co get long to agree to a lowball price before the draft, he becomes even more attractive. all in all he's the right pick.
2a. Antoine Cason CB Arizona
Everyone on this board knows that i've wanted Anoine Cason in Aqua and Orange for a long time. he is the complete package moreso than any other corner in the draft and if he lasts this long (and i have a hunch he will), then he has to be the pick, there is absolutely nothing in the way of Cason becoming the best corner in the NFL, remember you heard it here first. i could go on forever about how high i am on him, but let's just cut it off here.
2b. Malcolm Kelly WR Oklahoma
for some reason he's dropping like a rock, well, ok, the reason is his workouts have been lackluster, but you cant ignore the fact that his on field production was stellar, his size is impressive 6'3'' 224, and at one time was regarded as hands down the number one WR in the draft, gives us a lot of versatility and allows us to comfortably use 4 WR's, because Wilford is our only proven commodity, Ginn looks good for now, but we'll see if his production matches his talent, and Hagan is erratic at best, after that we have nothing, Kelly more than addresses that.
3. Josh Barrett SS Arizona St.
i thought long and hard about going with LB Philip Wheeler here or TE Brad Cottam, but i just couldnt ignore Barrett, at 6'1'' 223 he runs a 4.35 40, it would be an amazing asset to have a SS that can cover ground like that, plus pair him up with the kind of speed Jason and Will Allen bring and you're looking at one of the faster secondaries in the league, adding Cason and Barrett will not only improve our pass defense, but should also help our run defense as well as both are impressive tacklers for their size.
4. Mike McGlynn G Pittsburgh
unfortunately there were no good pics of McGlynn (75), this one of course being ruined by WR TJ Porter's fumble. McGlynn is a solid guard prospect who can play tackle as well, he's great value in round 4, and should be a durable solid starter.
5. no pick (is that less offensive to those people who were all over my behind about what i wrote in here version 6.0?)
6a. Gary Guyton LB Georgia Tech
he's an athletic freak at 6'1'' 245 with a 40 inch vertical and a 4.47 40, worst case scenario, he's a special teams ace with those measurables. in the 6th round a cant miss pick.
6b. Gary Barnidge TE Louisville
he's a big body at 6'6'' 244, but runs well at 4.63, solid TE value in the early 6th round, had a solid 07 catching 53 balls for 655 yard and 7 scores.
7a. Lionel Dotson DT Arizona
(side note: damn near impossibly to find an action shot of him)
has had some problems with injury, still, getting to the QB 6.5 times from the inside of the line is pretty impressive, would play end in our scheme.
7b. Tim Hightower RB Richmond
burned Div 1-AA for nearly 2k and 20 scores, also caught 32 passes, his speed is likely what dropped him here as he's not a burner, but he does have impressive size at 6' 226, again, if nothing else he could be a solid special teamer, but has potential to be a compliment back to Ronnie B.
