1. Sign Flozell Adams (Dallas) and move Carey back to the right side.
2. Sign Isaac Sopoaga (SF 49ers) to play NT. My thought process here is that we're gonna run a 3-4 defense.
3. Sign Calvin Pace (Arizona) so we can trade Jason Taylor.
MOCK DRAFT
First, we trade the #1 overall pick to Atlanta so they can draft Matt Ryan. We get their 1st, 2nd, and 5th round picks.
Then we trade the #3 overall pick, Jason Taylor, and Ricky Williams to Cincy for their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks (plus a conditional pick in next year's draft). Cincy will pick Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey.
With the #9 overall pick we would have our choice of the best CB in the draft.
Then we trade our 3rd round pick to New Orleans for their 3rd and 4th round pick.
Round 1 - Mike Jenkins, Leodis McKelvin, or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Any one of them would be the best corner we've had since Sam Madison.
Round 2 - BPA (impossible to predict who will fall but it's a numbers game and somebody with a 1st round grade will be sitting there for our taking)
Round 2 (from ATL) - Anthony Collins OT Kansas. A great LT prospect who can step in for Flozell in a couple of years. Boomer says he's every bit as good as Chris Williams. Maybe Collins even plays LG until Flozell retires.
Round 2 (from Cincy) - Philip Wheeler ILB Georgia Tech. Possibly the best ILB coming out this year. Some might argue that Dan Connor, Curtis Lofton, or Jerod Mayo are better. I would disagree. But the one thing you can't argue is that Wheeler is bigger and faster than all of them.
Round 2 - Roy Schuening OG Oregon St. Branden Albert and Chilo Rachal are getting all the press, but Schuening is no slouch. Before those guys declared he was the best OG coming out.
Round 3 (from Cincy) - Jamar Adams SS Michigan. The best SS coming out this year.
Round 3 (from New Orleans) - Erik Ainge QB Tennessee. An insurance policy for John Beck. An excellent prospect (great size, great bowl game, great Senior Bowl) who could develop into a very good QB and eventually take over for Beck if he isn't needed sooner.
Round 4 - Brad Cottam TE Tennessee. A huge talented TE, and we know Parcells and Ireland like huge. If Cottam is off the board or too injury prone, then Kellen Davis from Michigan St would be my second choice.
Round 4 (from New Orleans) - Spencer Larsen ILB Arizona. Doesn't have the measureables but this guy is a football player.
Round 5 - Jacob Hester FB LSU. We don't need a FB, but Hester is too good to pass up. BPA right? He can play FB or RB. And he's a special teams standout. An added bonus would be that New England wouldn't get him if we drafted him. He's the perfect replacement for Kevin Faulk. I'm no expert but I think Hestor would also be a good candidate for the H-back position.
Round 6 - Jason Rivers WR Hawaii. Big, tough WR who was a big part of Hawaii's explosive offense.
Round 7 - BenJarvus Green-Ellis RB Mississippi. Tough, physical runner who is also a good blocker. Looked great in the East-West Shrine game.
I've seen all these guys play in at least one game. Most of them I've seen play several times. And I was always impressed with what I saw.
So the additions to our roster would look like this:
Offense
QB - Erik Ainge (3rd round)
WR - Jason Rivers (6th round)
RB - BenJarvus Green-Ellis (7th round)
FB - Jacob Hester (5th round)
TE - Brad Cottam (4th round)
LT - Flozell Adams (from Dallas) and Anthony Collins (2nd round)
LG -
C -
RG - Roy Schuening (2nd round)
RT -
Defense
DE -
NT - Isaac Sopoaga (from San Fran)
DE -
OLB - Calvin Pace (from Arizona)
ILB - Philip Wheeler (2nd round)
ILB - Spencer Larsen (4th round)
OLB -
CB - Mike Jenkins, Leodis McKelvin, or DRC (1st round)
SS - Jamar Adams (3rd round)
FS -
And don't forget about the BPA available at the top of the 2nd round. It could be Jeff Otah, Branden Albert, or Chilo Rachal which would fortify our o-line.
Or it could be DRC which would give us both Mike Jenkins (or Leodis McKelvin) AND Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. How's that for a tandem?
Or it could be Kentwan Balmer, Reggie Smith, or Chad Henne. The possiblities are endless.
