Phins FA

NT Vince Wilfork - He is an UFA and although NE traded Richard Seymore to OAK to free up $ to re-sign big Vince, they still will have to compete with other offers. We can lure him away with a big money offer that matches any other team and gives him a chance to come home. At age 28, Wilfork is still worth it.

RB/RS Darren Sproles - Sproles (age 27) wasn't as good as expected this season behind a SD offensive line which has regressed in run blocking. But I still think he's a stud and I like his sturdy low-center-of-gravity build more so than the slight guys in this draft like CJ Spiller and Jahvid Best who worry me as injury risks. Sproles is an UFA and we should be able to sign him for a pretty reasonable contract given how much he can help us on STs and yes, as a RB behind our great run-blocking OL.

ILB Chris Gocong - Gocong (age 26) has nice size and has been making plays for PHI whenever given the opportunity. I think he'll make a nice addition to play next to Crowder.

OLB Jason Taylor - Re-signed

TE Anthony Fasano - Resigned

Cap Cuts

OLB Joey Porter

Trade

RB Ronnie Brown - 2nd round tendered but signs long term deal with CLE. Miami receives Browns 2nd round pick as compensation.

NFL Draft

1. St. Louis Rams - Ndamukong Suh DT Nebraska
2. Detroit Lions - Gerald McCoy DT Oklahoma
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Eric Berry S Tennessee
4. Washington Redskins - Russell Okung OT Oklahoma St.
5. Kansas City Chiefs - Rolando McClain ILB Alabama
6. Seattle Seahawks - Jimmy Clausen QB Notre Dame
7. Cleveland Browns- Joe Haden CB Florida
8. Oakland Raiders - Sam Bradford QB Oklahoma
9. Buffalo Bills - Trent Williams OT Oklahoma
10. Denver Broncos (from CHI) - Dan Williams DT Tennessee
11. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derrick Morgan DE Georgia Tech
12. Miami Dolphins - Dez Bryant WR Oklahoma St.

The NCAA violation may be just enough to allow the elite WR1 prospect to slip to us.

I have OAK taking advantage of the uncapped year to cut Jamarcus and thus them drafting Bradford. I have McDaniels filling his WR needs in FA after trading Brandon Marshall so DEN doesn't take Dez Bryant. JAX is impressed enough with Mike Sims-Walker to focus on their pass rush.

Phins Draft

Round 1.) Dez Bryant - Finally the WR1 we've always wanted.

Round 2a.) Navaro Bowman OLB PSU - JT's future replacement. Pick from CLE for Ronnie Brown

Round 2b.) Chad Jones FS LSU - Tuna & Ireland won't pay for another FS in FA to replace Gibril but they will look to replace him in the draft.

Round 3.) Aaron Hernandez TE UF - Replaces David Martin to say the least!

Round 4.) Micah Johnson ILB UK - Depth/competition for Crowder and Cocong.

Round 5.) Anthony Dixon RB MSU - Power runner to push Ricky and/or at least compete with Hilliard for the RB3 spot.

Sorry, but I have a bunch of issues with this post.

1. Wilfork will either get resigned or franchise tagged by NE. No question.

2. No thanks with Gocong. We need a stud in the middle who never misses a tackle. Gocong is an average player at best.

3. Bowman is way too small to play in our 3-4 scheme.

4. Hernandez, Johnson, and Dixon will almost definitely be gone before each of those picks.

5. It's interesting how you 'fixed' it so that Bryant lands in our lap. Why not just say he dropped to us because other teams had players higher on their boards or were concerned about his year off? You don't need to make up an elaborate scenario.

Alright - thanks for the feedback. Are you sure Wilfork can be franchised? Hasn't he already been hit with the tag?

Maybe this instead...

FA:

NT Casey Hampton PIT
OLB Thomas Howard OAK
RB/RS Darren Spoles SD
OLB Jason Taylor MIA
NT Jason Ferguson MIA
TE Anthony Fasano MIA

Draft:

R1.) Dez Bryant WR OSU
R2a.) Sean Lee ILB PSU (from CLE for Ronnie)
R2b.) Aaron Hernandez TE UF
R3.) Nate Allen FS USF
R4.) Anthony Dixon RB MSU

I like the idea of getting at least 3 or 4 weapons for this offense (Dez, Sproles, Hernandez, Dixon) and then adding to the defense in FA and with the pick acquired from Ronnie leaving.

Fair enough but I've looked at many, many mocks and Dixon isn't going much higher than that in most of them.

well for my eyes he's got a solid 2nd round grade...3rd at worst

get a load of this guy at the senior bowl...

I see you targeting 1.WR, 2 ILB, 3TE, 4 S, 5 RB:

Round 1 WR at 12: Golden Tate, Brandon LaFell, Danario Alexander will be available. Dez is likely gone.

Round 2 ILB at 5: Navorro Bowman, and Sean Weatherspoon, Sean Lee will be available (All iffy and undersized); it's more likely that we will go OLB/DE/DT with: Vince Oghobaase, Arthur Jones, Jarred Odrick, George Selvie, Everson Griffen, Pierre Paul, Corey Wooten i nthat range. I don't think there are ILBs who are as good, unless Daryl Washington drops to 2nd.

Round 2 at 11, you want TE: Dennis Pitta, Aaron Hernandez could easily be available. But here inthe 2nd, you will lose Dixon, Montario Hardesty or Ryan Matthews if you want a RB later.

Round 3, S at 10: Chad Jones may drop to third here, but it's a risk. Nate Allen also, but both are likely to go a little higher as well, like mid or end second. So waiting til third to pick up a S if you really want him is a big risk.

Round 4, RB at 12: Here you may have Chris Brown of Oklahoma, and I think Keith Toston of OkSU will be here, maybe LaGarrett Blount. Nothing to write home about. However there will be some decent cornerbacks here like maybe Jerome Murphy, Myron Lewis, Perrish Cox. Also there will be some good TEs in this round like Dedrick Epps of Miami, Andrew Quarless etc. There will also be some interesting receivers like Freddie Barnes, Jacoby Ford, maybe Riley Cooper, as well as some LBs like Stevenson Sylvester, Rico MCCoy, Clinton Snyder. So, I think the value here is away from RBs.

honestly it's so hard to do a full mock draft right now it's not funny...it's basically an exercise in futility

we need talent and playmakers first and foremost...until we make our first round pick it's impossible to know who should be the targets in future rounds...i understand trying to get a fill for every position of need but taking need all the time over bpa is how you get stuck with average players...and the same needs every year...

we should stick to our bpa draft board for the most part minus a few positions we seem to be pretty stocked at...especially early

bpa at #12 all the way

I agree with (1) futility and (2) BPA. As far as futility, I was just trying to look realistically at who may be there considering the OPs desires.
As far as BPA, I think after the third round it does not hold as much truth because the difference between BPA at the positions is negligable.
So yes, in the first three round Phins should get the BPA, but not a QB or a RB. After the third round, they should go and fill the needs exclusively with the BPA at that position.

I thought wilfork was on record as saying he wouldn't sign with us. something about us passing him up in the draft or something.

Ronnie Brown is one of my favorite Dolphins of all time, but he has had a few injuries and is getting "old" as far as runningbacks go. I can't see any team giving up anything earlier than a 3rd round pick if we were to trade him.
