Cut: Mario Williams, Koa Misi, Dion Jordan, Earl Mitchell (saves about $20M in cap)

Total cap room: $50M

Re-signings:
Dion Sims (3 years, $10M, $3.33M guaranteed, $2.5M first year cap hit)
Jelani Jenkins (2 years, $5M, $2.5M guaranteed, $1.5M first year cap hit)
Michael Thomas (2 years, $4M, $1M guaranteed, $1M first year cap hit)
Kenny Stills (4 years, $28M, $14M guaranteed, $5M first year cap hit)
Andre Branch (2 years, $8M, $4M guaranteed, $2.5M first year cap hit)
Kiko Alonso (RFA 2nd round tender, $2.5M)

Cap room after re-signings: $35M
Cap room after rookie salaries: $24M

Free agent signings:
Melvin Ingram, SOLB (5 years, $55M, $27.5M guaranteed, $7M first year cap hit)
Larry Warford, RG (5 years, $45M, $22.5M guaranteed, $5M first year cap hit)
Datone Jones, DE (2 years, $5M, $1.5M first year cap hit)
Bennie Logan, DT (3 years, $13.5M, $4.5M guaranteed, $4M first year cap hit)

Cap room remaining (not counting rookie salaries): $6.5M

NFL Draft:
Round 1: Zach Cunningham, ILB, Vanderbilt
Round 2: Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova
Round 3: Jon Toth, C, Kentucky
Round 5: Cole Hikutini, TE, Louisville
Round 5: Rayshawn Jenkins, FS, Miami

It looks like Miami will just miss out on getting a 4th round compensatory pick for Lamar Miller, and it'll probably end up being a 5th. Miami gets a 3rd round pick from Olivier Vernon being lost in free agency and signing a monster deal. Also doesn't look like Miami will net picks for Rishard Matthews or Derrick Shelby.

Also making the assumption that Kiko Alonso will slide to WOLB after getting two new linebackers. Re-signed Andre Branch to what I feel like is an accurate amount for his demand. Also signed two free agent defensive linemen after axing Earl Mitchell. Re-signed Jelani Jenkins and Michael Thomas for depth. Thomas is also an awesome special teams player. Though, not sure Jenkins will be re-signed because of guys like Hewitt and Hull.

I put some thought into this, but mostly did it for fun.

Is this correct
Cap room after re-signings: $35M
Cap room after rookie salaries: $24M...$11 million for rookie salaries?

Looks good I,m not the great at draft stuff but isn't the Louisville TE a late 3rd to 4th round talent?

I believe it's fairly accurate for the draft picks and UDFAs. I may have put too much toward that, but even so, it helped me not go too crazy with the free agent signings, which may even be over the top as they are.

CBS Sports had him listed as a 5th-6th round prospect. I think with the general depth of the tight end class he might be able to be had in the fifth. But again, I'm no expert in general player rankings. IMO he'd be a steal in the 5th, so he quite possibly could be a 3rd or 4th round-type prospect.

Way too sophisticated for maybe even try, but I applaud your efforts! I am so looking forward to this off-season. For the first time in years it seems like there actually may be some light at the end of the tunnel. Wish I could gave you 2 thumbs up

Honestly, anymore than $6M is probably a stretch for draft picks. Since it's just the top 51 that are accounted for, the UDFA's don't factor into the equation really.

It's realistic, but I do think some of your figures are a little too team friendly. Sims, Stills and Branch probably are a slight tick up for me. UFA's seem pretty good tho.

I'd let Jenkins leave, and I think it's more like $6M-$7M for rookies rather than $11M, although I could be wrong. I noticed that you didn't address a few others, so I'm assuming you mean to keep Maxwell at his current salary, cut Mario Williams, extend/re-sign Alonso, Landry and Jones.

What about Earl Mitchell, Branden Albert, and Koa Misi? I'm assuming we move on from Misi and keep Albert and Mitchell?

Personally, I think we will be in the market for a big time TE. If we don't get one in free agency or via trade, I'm expecting we'll draft one high. Since we have so many defensive needs, I'm hoping we address DL and LB in the first two rounds.

I like your thoughts. But you forgot about extending Landry and Jones. Jones costs $8M in 2017 in capspace so his new contract might save some money depending on how its structured. But Landry who costs $1,1M in 2017 in capspace will break your budget since you only have $6.5M left and Landrys new contract will probably be around $10-12M/year.

Capnumbers comes from Spotrac.

The offense needs offensive line depth and a RG in the draft and a FA might do the trick.

And the defense needs Dline help and LBer help.

Our Front office needs to resist the idea that we're close to being super bowl contenders. We're not... and their approach needs to be to shore up our depth in our many weak areas and then improve at vital positions.

Be competitive next year and take our shot the year after. We aren't going to hit a homerun this coming football season so don't spend like we will.

I don't believe our FA (Stills and Branch) will agree to those lower numbers. I think Stills will command a larger payout, but it all depends on who else is available and the draft class.

That's very well thought out. I would be happy with Ingram and Cunningham added to Kiko. Jenkins as depth.

Just a minor criticism. I think Kenny Stills gets more money then that which makes him a difficult resign

Also you leave more then enough cap space to restructure Landry and Jones. That part is good

I too believe Kenny Stills will get more than that and o know Bennie Logan will get more than that. Good write up though.

What about extensions for Jones and Landry ? You are risking a hold out by both unless they get new deals

http://overthecap.com/draft/

When you look at this table make sure you read the info at the top of the page. There is rookie pool, and then there is effective, or adjusted rookie pool, because every draft pick that makes the 53 or the 51 is replacing someone who had been getting paid and was on the roster.

Dolphins will need more like 3.4 mil to cover their rookies if things remain the same.

And yes, the free agent salary projections are way too low, especially Kenny Stills.
