ROUND 1
Vontae Davis-Cb Illinois
How this special talent gets lost in the shuffle and falls to us, I have no idea. He's arguably the best pure cornerback in the draft as he can cover and play the run. He has what Parcells love which is size and strength.
Others: Darius Butler CB UConn, Brian Cushing ILB USC (stock is dropping fast) Hakeem Nicks WR UNC
(From all the mocks I've seen, Clay Matthews is the hottest pick. I think with his really fast time he just posted at the USC pro day, and the Patriots love for grabbing LBs, I think he's gone by our 25th pick.
ROUND 2a
Clint Sintim-OLB Virginia
Another guy who gets lost in the shuffle and free falls. His name hasnt been mentioned much in the pre-draft but he is perfect as a 3-4 linebacker and his Al Groh/Parcells connection makes this pick a little easier than most 2nd round picks.
Others: Larry English OLB Northern Illinois, Kenny Britt WR Rutgers, Connor Barwin Cincinatti (1 year of defensive play scares me but watch his combine, the guy is a sick athlete and the Fins are enamored by him)
ROUND 2b
Duke Robinson-OG Oklahoma
Sticking with my theme of superior talent that continue to fall. The Fins finally go offense with this mauler of an offensive guard. This All-American talent has the talent to start right away and will push Donald Thomas and/or Justin Smiley.
Others: Kraig Urbik OG Wisconsin, Herman Johson OG LSU, Brian Robiskie WR OSU
ROUND 3
Chris Baker-NT Hampton
Dolphins took Kendal Langford from Hampton last year and they go back and get Baker to be the future anchor of their Dline. He played in the 3-4 system so he knows the technique and is very athletic for a 6'2 330 pound guy (36" vertical). With a lot of teams switching to the 3-4 and the NT the most important position of the 3-4, Baker goes earlier than expected.
Others: Terrance Taylor NT Michigan, Mike Mickens CB Cincinatti, Pat White ATH West Virginia
ROUND 4
Jasper Brinkley-ILB South Carolina
Intriguing ILB. Hard-hitting tackler that could go earlier to a 3-4 team if they aren't scared of his ACL tear in '07.
Others: Jason Phillips ILB TCU, Antonio Appleby ILB Virginia
ROUND 5
Don Carey- CB Norfolk State
I'm not even going to try and give insight on the guy. All I know is that the Fins are supposedly really high on this guy as a day 2 prospect. We could definitely use all the help we can get at the CB position.
-I'm not going to speculate on Round 6 and 7 as that is nearly impossible.
Reasons for draft put in place:
-Our biggest need is definitely CB.
-I chose two, one being V. Davis, a premiere talent who could challenge Will Allen as the number 1 Corner.
-I did not go offense outisde of D Robinson
-I believe, as they did last year, the Fins FO will find Offensive line and WR help after the draft.
-I believe next year, the Fins go for that big time WR talent but
-With Pennington's lack of explosion in his arm, the FO is content with our possession recievers of Bess and Camarillo.
