Here is a report from yesterday posted by DiehardPhinFan on another board:

I got a "Club Level" invite to today's practice and had my 8 and 10 year old daughters with me.

The 10 year old just wanted to know where Marino was and how come he isn't out there trying to help Jay (go figure that logic) and the 8 year old just kept asking for the score and where the cheerleaders were at. It did not make for a note taking practice but I recorded a few observations to memory in between the Q & A session with my girls.

First up, this was a scheduled 2 PM practice that got moved up to 1 PM just this morning. I was in Singer Island on the East Coast this weekend doing some boating and fishing (I live on West coast-Naples) and I stayed until Monday and let the kids play hookie just for this invite to practice and TC.

Before I left for Davie, I checked my business email, and of course my Dolphin email, and realized I had an email at 10 AM this morning moving up the practice to 1 PM at Wanny's request to start the simulation of 1 PM home games and the weather a this time.

Therefore, I arrived later than I wanted...right at 1 PM. Typical stuff…O-lineman, D-lineman, LB's, secondary, etc. broken down into stations working very lightly I might add on some standard basic drills. On the far field, the ST were practicing punting, punt receiving, punting out of end zone, defending punts punted from end zone, etc. Nothing special here with Stemke and Royals faring about the same. I thought it was very unusaual that Rogers was the only return guy getting work.

When the offense and defense split up to perform assignment drills on the far field, on the near field Stemke was practicing kick-offs, that's right Stemke, Mare was no where in sight. Royals was on the goal line trying his best to catch them and throw them back...seems weird one of the staff or trainers was not down their catching and returning balls as Royals was obviously lazy and gave little effort to a job he clearly did not think he should be doing. Stemke was kicking off from the 30 yard line and out of about 25 kicks, only put 1 in the end zone, 3 out of bounds and the rest landing about the 5-10 yard line. Royals did not work on kick offs at all. Royals then was called in to hold for Stemke for FG practice. The kicking coach, Stemke and Royals were on the near side working these drills alone for 30 minutes, with Stemke getting all of the work. It appeared Stemke might have leg for up to a 40 yarder but had no chance at anything further than that. BTW, I was at Friday's game and that 62 yard attempt by Mare looked sweet from my angle but tailed off at the end…plenty of leg however...wow!

During practice, it was good to see Mark Dixon, Patrick Surtain, Oronde Gadsden, Jay Williams and few others running and going through leg training drills. Griese was nowhere to be found. I truly think this injury is worse than anyone is letting on about. Not because it is OJ McDuffie like but that for him to be totally missing from practice this late in camp should be enough to validate that concern. A QB needs to be at camp everday regardless of injury at least listening and observing...unless of course it could expose the injury to the media to be more than advertised. Let’s hope he was out of town getting medical attention seeing a specialist or something.

During srimmage, it was same ole same ole. JT dominated when he wanted to, OL looked great on some plays and then very bad on others.

Some observations:

Rogers more carries than anyone at RB
Does that mean he is a bubble boy? I think he will be kept easily along with Henry as Robert Edwards is sent to look for work

Lots of live work with the first team "O" for Sage but unexpectedly Lon Sherrif saw the most work of all three...huh?

Jay looked very sharp on passes up to 25 yards and looks very confident out there with a strong drop and palnt, very nice. But between the game Friday night and the practice I saw today...call it arm strength or whatever you want but he AINT GOT THE LONG BALL, absolutely a poor excuse for an NFL long ball. He is lucky he is above average at his heart, pride, gamesmanship, etc. as it carries him! I hope this obvious to al llimitation does not come to haunt us this year.

It was also obvious that Derrius and Chris will start with Mcnight being our 3rd. 2 of the 3 - Tolver, Simmons and Gadsden will fill out the remaining two slots IMO.

I think they will keep 4 RB's, however, Edwards won't be one of them. RW, Minor, Henry and Rogers (yes, he will be listed as a RB not WR-returner) come final lineup. Of course, he will be our returner come opening day.

Wanny gave the100 or so fans a treat by coming over to speak to us after his post practice press conference. It was a wishy washy PC speech that just thanked everyone for coming out and sitting in the heat (95 degrees with little wind and shade). He asked us to not worry about the injuries that the media has hyped up as critical as he has faith the team will be ready day one.

Overall, I was very depressed to see the lack of energy at the practice. It appeared lazy and slow moving, nobody over zealous or fired up, very little contact, very little hollering form coaches, no sprint work (never attended a Dolphin TC ro college TC without seeing this prior to a first game). After watching the first two preseason games, for whatever they are worth nowadays, and today’s practice, we have one tough road ahead of us. Most of you know I am not a Wanny fan and today solidified my feelings further.

Don’t take that as doom and gloom but you can take that as stop the SB hype and get serious about the game!

I truly believe this year will be “make or break†based on our game preparation and game planning and not the amount of talent or injuries. That means its Wanny’s season to shine or step aside IMHO. I’ll give him all the credit he deserves if he can take us to the promise land.

That's all for now...got steak and scallops to put on the grill and its getting late...

Go Dolphins!

It amazes me that you can sit through the entire practice and watch all the talent that Dave has put on the field, and still bash him. Anyways, thanks for the report..
