That is one thing that the game against the Patriots showed us.

We have moved our offense into being a big play one, and a passing offense, a modern offense.

But our defense is from a decade ago and is set up to stop the run. It is a defense with players that plays well against a I formation with a fullback and only 2 WRs.

A lot of these choices were made by the front office in bringing in slower, bigger players. We drafted two good corners and then stopped trying to get a 3rd good one which you have to have in today's NFL

Gotta respectfully disagree...although we want to stop the run, we have a pass rusher at DE in Odrick, 3 pass rushers in our LB core (Wake, JT, Dansby), and we blitz with our secondary. In addition we have devoted a 1st and 2nd round pick in tow very good (not great) DBs to stop the pass. We also brought in coverage LBs in Burrnet and Dansby to stop the TEs. This D is not built to only stop the run. We are built for pass and run. We are trying to stop the pass, we just didnt against NE. We got outcoached its as simple as that, but at the same time is was by the best coach in the NFL so it's not a big shock. Belicheck is one of the, if not THE, best coach coming off of bye weeks because of the extra week of preparation he gets. In this case he had 200+ days to prepare. Think about it.

We wil adjust and the D will improve. Regardless of what happened last night, Nolan is a great DC and he will get things fixed in my opinion.

Its one game man...one game..I dont know you can say our offense is so great and modern and now our d sucks?

Our offense is still a work in progress..You dont know how good the d of New England is so Miami may end up being mediocore again of that side of the ball...

You dont know how good New England's offense is...You may have seen Aaron Rodgers shred a very good Saints D. You may have seen Drew Breese shred a super bowl winning Green bay D. Both of those teams were passed all over just like Miami's D.

OMG... LMAO. This stuff never ends. Last year, the defense was amazing. No one complained. And now suddenly, the SAME defense is antiquated? OK...

Or it could be about EXECUTION. The fact is, due to lack of conditioning, the players couldnt execute. That was the major problem yesterday. All the defensive players were gassed. Our best corners were cramping and out of the game, leaving Nolan Carrol exposed to be abused by the best QB in NFL history.

Can we please stop with the overreactions?

no hes absolutely correct. this defense is behind. kevin burnett was a step in the right direction over crowder. but our secondary is shot. we have zero depth and made zero effort to acquire any in the offeseason and that was a monumental blunder. the only guy we brought in was jimmy wilson a 7th round rookie. completely ridiculous when u need to guys to cover pats wide receivers and 2 guys to cover their talented tight ends. we made no attempt to create scheme flexibility. by drafting or bringing in a big cover corner or safety. why not quintin mickall? he would have been perfect for us, and another corner. we simply dont have the depth in the secondary. cutting will allen was foolish. we may only have 3 talented players on the entire roster in the secondary.. zero depth. and for now it looks like chris clemons needs to be our starter at free safety even if he cant make plays.

The defense isn't behind. But they were exposed as being poorly conditioned and unable to adjust quickly. The fact that our players were going out with cramps in the Florida heat makes me absolutely sick. That should never happen to the home team in these circumstances.

I thought it was pretty clear that we do not have the players to play a 4 wide passing team. Except for Cam Wake our pass rush lacks speed. And we only seem to have two players in our secondary that can cover anyone.

You cannot have only two players that can cover someone and defend against the pass when the other team is sending out 4 good WRs/TEs.

I'm not saying you can do everything in a season, we drafted for offense this season and we got the boost we needed. But if anyone does not see that we need help in the secondary has their head in the sand. One injury to V Davis or S Smith would kill us. We are going to have to spend some picks or some free agent cash to get to where are defense is a complete one.

No team is EVER complete. We just got to hope that one of these days one very critical element of our team is good enough to compensate. Take even New England... their defense allowed Chad Henne (Yes, CHAD HENNE) to shred them for most of the night. The defense has enough talent to compete, and the scheme is generally good enough to handle most teams, at least if last year is any indication.

Oh come on, lay off the panic button.

It was the freakin' Patriots who were 14-2 last season. That offense makes a lot of teams look bad. Let's not freak out just because we lost to one of the top 5 teams in the NFL.
