They asked him who his top 3 quarterbacks of all time would be. He said, paraphrasing here......

"You gotta look at the guys like the "Jonny U's" and Bart Starrs. But to me...I was working out just yesterday, and there was a profile of Brett (Farve) on television in the gym....it shown his records, which are multiple....and it seems like he is second or third in every record category, and Danny is on top of them all. It seems like he owns every record in the book, so he would have to be on top of my list."

The guy doing the interview then said "But he never won a superbowl."

Montana replied

"Yeah, but you have to look at the teams Danny played on. One man cannot win a superbowl, and it just seems like....if you look at Marino's teams....I can say that, yeah, he had some good defenses.....and some good talent around him, but I can also say that he never had a real "stopper" type defense, or a great back to hand the ball off to"

Good stuff

Amen, Joe Montana. If Dan weren't a Dolphin then there would be no winningest franchise record. You take Dan away from those teams, they would not won nearly as much. I'm sure Shula would have eventually found his man and would have been decent, but not as good without Marino. Personally, I don't think you can really name a BEST of all time. The game has changed throughout the years. Many claim that Manning wouldn't have had Dan's TD record if the rules for covering WRs were the same today as they were early in Dan's career. The same can be said for Unitas. I think you can really only say there are certain few that are among the Greatest of all time.

greatest sig ive ever seen.

Bill Walsh quote that I read online says it all. (Sorry I don't have a link, but I could proabably find it.)

Joe Montana was a product of the system, but DAN MARINO WAS THE SYSTEM!.

That Joe's own coach saying that, ENOUGH SAID!

nice comments buy joe...im sick of people bashing marino for never winning the SB..he will always be one of the best qbs to play the game

I wish every Marino-basher read this. The man never won a super bowl but was an obvious first-ballot hall of famer and holds every major passing record in NFL history, what else is there to argue?

Excellent post but you failed to mention that after the interview Joe just sat there with his hand out waiting for his $100,000. :dolphins:

Smart man that Joe Montana! Players that played during Marinos era know he was the man, to hell with all the idiots who bash him because he never got that ring.
