I love Steve Mariucci. I know it's a foregone conclusion at this point that he is not the guy. I'm just curious why teams aren't looking at him. He did a great job in San Fran, and was just dealt a bad deck in Detroit. No one can win there. Why isn't he being considered by anyone?

I think if he's not being considered for any coaching jobs its probably for good reasons. I dont really like him as a head coach, he seems to much like a push-over, i heard he let players sleep through meetings.

for the same reason teams arent looking at capers. I think their situations are prettyy identical.

Decent in San Fran, Carolina
Terrible in Detroit, Houston.

The NFL's kind of a 'two strikes' your out type of deal i think.

well considering they both inherited great teams and subsequently ran them into the ground.....

i could see him getting a chance again, detroit is a hole and coaches just dont succeed there.

capers didnt inherit a great team.. wasnt he the coach of the panthers when they first were brought into the league

Marucci had to overcome huge salary cap problems in San Fran..... and nobody will win wth Millen running the show in Detroit
I think he enjoys time with family now and doing the NFL network stuff.... I really enjoy his input on tv, I hope he doesn't leave. He works well with Deon

I love Mariucci. I would love to have him here but I think we're going to bring in a young NFL guy. Not a college coach and not a former NFL coach.

To me I would seriously consider Marriucci and Shottenheimer (Sr.), should he be fired by San Diego following a loss to the Patriots. I would also like to see us give a young and hungry defensive assistant a shot.

My short list would look like this:

1. Jim Mora Jr.
2. Marty Shottenheimer
3. Mike Tomlin
4. Steve Marriucci
5. Tim Lewis

Mariucci's a good offensive coach but he's not a good talent evaluator. He'd make a great OC for a team looking to use the WCO. But these days, HC's have to be more involved in personnel decisions and scouting and Mooch falls short there.

Mooch "was" the reason Detroit sucked, the guy is clueless, I mean clueless. He shouldn't be allowed to even speak about football, let alone coach it.
