I'm really not sure what everyone expected out of Moore today. I have been rooting for someone to take over from Henne because he has proven, without a doubt, that he is a losing QB in this league. We are 6-14 in his last 20 starts, NOT COUNTING TODAY (which officially goes on his record), and a lot of these losses involved at least in part Henne completely sucking with the game on the line. Most of the wins did too. The defense is as much at fault, but that's another topic. Before today, most people here shared my opinion on Henne. Now I'm seeing 1 of 2 responses.
1. Moore is no better than Henne!
2. Start Pat Devlin, season is over!
Moore today was decidedly mediocre. He wasn't always decisive, and he didn't always do well with the shakey line. But it seems like most people who were supporting him thought he would enter a game and throw 3-4 TD's, leading us to victory despite our weaknesses. You guys just don't get that when you are a backup QB in this league, you are almost never getting any genuine preparation time. He didn't get time with the first team at all in preseason, he doesn't get reps in practice, and he is merely a bystander at most things gone over between the staff and the starter. You don't just step in and do everything perfectly without having any preparation at all. There are going to be rough spots, and in today's game there were actually less rough spots than one would expect.
Most here would probably forget that Chad Henne stepped in as a backup Qb in the same exact place and promptly threw the game away with a pick 6, a game we were winning too when he entered. And this was from a guy who wasn't the ordinary number two, he was taking reps and lots of coaching time because he was being groomed as a starter.
You can be critical of Moore's performance, because at the end of the day it wasn't great. But it was actually probably about what we could expect if Henne had stayed in the game, and this was coming from a guy who had a mere fraction of a chance to get prepared. I haven't given up believing that a QB besides Henne should lead this faltering team now, and Moore is the guy in position to do that. Even if you disagree, just please don't be ignorant enough to assume that when Moore took the field today, he had an equal playing field to a guy who has been given far too much of this team's focus for 4 years.
