Here's your update...

* Linehan definitely the front runner, as frst reported here ... Shaw told me he's been talking to everyone he knows in the league to see if there's something he's missing about the guy ... not looking for negatives, but just cross checking to make sure he hasn't overlooked something. And people inside the league continue to tell Shaw that Linehan is ready.

* Cameron did well in Friday's interview... enough to get a second interview.... had some good ideas ... Shaw wanted to hear more. Cameron has ground to make up if he's going to dislodge Linehan as the front runner.

* As of late last night, Shaw wasn't 100 percent sure they'd interview Rivera a second time, but he was probably going to do it. They really like his personal qualities. If he gets a second interview, Rivera better have a plan for the offense, and he better have some ideas about a coaching staff. He didn't in the first round of interviews.

* Steelers offensive coordinator Whisenhunt will not be interviewed. Shaw wants to pull the trigger -- wants the new guy to have the best possible chance to put together a strong staff.

* Jim Fassel is still a fallback candidate if everything blows up.

* Cam Cameron will interview today, Linehan tomorrow, and Rivera on Wednesday if they do Rivera a 2nd time, as expected.

* The choice will head to Arizona to meet with Georgia Frontiere, probably Thursday.

* Shaw hopes to announce it Friday -- but nothing etched in stone as far as timing.

Not that i really care that Linehan leaves, but espn news reporting this morning before i went to work that Ron Rivera now that the Bears are out of the playoffs is gonna get the job.

I think without question it is Linehan's to lose. I think the Rams wanted Rivera to wow them and get the job but it just didn't happen.

Yeah, I think the Rams really want a Defensive coach instead of an offensive one, but unless Rivera can wow them, they'll go the other way...

I believe they are using Linehan and Cameron to keep the salary demands of Rivera down, being the last interview leads me to believe thats how it will go down.

I don't think Linehan is ready to be a head man.

Thanks for the info. To be honest, though, if they're so sold on Linehan, why are they waiting on hiring the guy? I mean, they're putting him behind the 8-ball in putting together a staff by delaying his hiring.

Maybe they just want to interview some coaches from playoff teams to make certain.

Just my opinion, but I don't think the guy has put together enough of a body of work to merit a HC position.

Two points:

Rivera's salary demands? How can he make salary demands? If he doesn't get the Rams job he most likely not land anywhere. This is not a bidding war.

Why haven't they hired Linehan yet? Because they are doing what any team should do and go through an extensive process. Cameron, Linehan, and Rivera will all interview again but make no mistake, Linehan is the favorite.

Two points:

A) If you have three candidates on the hook for the job that you report to like, you can pay less on their contract than if you only have one candidate.

B) If Linehan was clearly the frontrunner, he would more than likely already have been hired, teams do not normally delay hiring their choice once he is identified.

The Rams IMO, wanted Kiffen or Rivera right from the start, Kiffen decided against it, Rivera wasn't finished in the playoffs yet.

My prediction: Rivera will be the Rams coach by weeks end.

Not from what espn news said this morning, Rivera expected to take the job they said this morning.
