Raiders | Playbook Much More Advanced, Says Moss
Tue, 2 Aug 2005 22:46:48 -0700
Hansen Shieh, of Raiders.com, reports when asked to compare the Minnesota Vikings' playbook to that of the Oakland Raiders, WR Randy Moss said there was no comparison. "It's night and day," Moss said. "The playbook in Minnesota was like one-plus-one. Here it's more like Algebra II. It's very complicated and I'm trying to get the plays down to where I can line up and after you do all that, everything else is very simple. It's a transition for me that I'm going through that's very challenging. I'm trying to put myself up for the challenge and make this thing happen."
Apparently Randy doesn't think that there's too much of Scott Linehan's playbook.......but thinks that the Raiders have a very complex scheme.
Raises a few questions, at least for me.
1) Do I care what Randy says, he is IMO the type of person who could say anything at any time to suit his current situation. Now that he's in Oakland is he basically going to praise them and thrash anyhting Vikings? Is Collins better than Culpepper now?
2) Was he given information at a slower pace when he came up as a rookie and now is being bombarded with everything all at once and getting confused??
3) Is Norv Turner the one designing the system in Oakland, or does he have a OC of note who has his own system.....I always assumed that NT would just implement his system, the same one we ran for a couple of years. So is Norv's system actually more complex that the one that Linehan will implement?
4) Does the intricacy of the offence really matter, or are we comfortable just to say the the offense is "more wide open" than what we previously had. I know that Norv liked to run the ball a lot, but he also preferred (by reputation at least) a vertical game. So is our even going to be more wide open than the one we had with Norv?
Your thoughts.......(hopefully more than "Randy Moss is an idiot")
