FINS FIXIN' TO MOVE UP?
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins might be bringing in quarterbacks JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn for pre-draft visits.
Though there's a chance (albeit slim) that Quinn will still be on the board when the Fins use the No. 9 overall pick, it's unlikely that Russell will fall that far.
Thus, Salguero suggests (and we agree) that Miami could be plotting a move up in round one.
There are rumors of talks between the Lions and other teams about the No. 2 overall pick, which Detroit currently owns. Indeed, we've caught wind of a trade that almost went down on Wednesday, which would have dropped Detroit deep into round one.
Under the trade value chart, the Fins would have to come up with 1,250 points in order to bridge the gap from No. 9 (which is worth 1,350 points) to No. 2 (which is worth 2,600 points). Alternatively, they'd be required to pony up an acceptable pack of players, possibly including quarterback Daunte Culpepper.
If healthy, Culpepper could be an intriguing fit in the Mike Martz offense. Some of Culpepper's best throws have come when he acts decisively in response to his first read. If Martz could get him to make quick decisions in a fast-paced offense, Culpepper might perform far better than when he stands in the pocket like a moose in the headlights.

Hmmm. Could Cam and Randy be cooking up something bold and ballsey? Never know. Look how bold the Patriots have been in free agency signing up 3 receivers and a high priced linebacker. Sometimes, you gotta be bold to keep up with the competition.

I've not talked about this much because I felt it would be nearly impossible, but...

If we were to trade up to get Russell, I'd be stoked.

This was the one scenario in which I'd be OK with trading/cutting Daunte. I personally feel Russell is merely a specimen of a QB waiting for a Hall of Fame nomination. I don't feel that comfy with Quinn. And don't want him.

Wanna make the draft the wildest in my dreams?

Trade a healthy Daunte and our 2 2nds to get Detroit's #2 overall.

Then draft Russell @ #2 and Levi Brown @ #9.

I think I'd just about take up drinking just to celebrate.

But, since I've felt Daunte wouldn't be tradeable at this point, I've been more adament about keeping our picks and Daunte and drafting Levi Brown @ #9 and Ryan Kahlil with our 1st 2nd Rounder.

Russell and Brown in the same draft..... excuse me while I drool.

Ummm im not crazy about c-pep but i would like to give him 1 more chance to see if he can prove to us that he was really hurt last year.

As a selfish Bills fan, I would love to see Miami give up day 1 picks to draft a QB who will then play behind one of the crappiest OLs in the league!!! :bighug:

As a human being, I oppose unnecessary cruelty to young quarterbacks who don't have a say in the team that drafts them!!! :boohoo:

It would be in Miami's best long-term interest to invest in its OL in the draft rather than chase a "franchise QB", and that means taking one of the OTs available at #9 and stocking up on OGs in later rounds (there are a lot of guards available in this draft), so the more picks in the draft, the better, especially since Miami has many holes.

A bad OL will make even a potential HOFer look bad, and a good OL improves just about any competent QB.

I doubt that even Matt Millen would be stupid enough to trade away the #2 pick overall without getting a high first rounder plus other picks for it.

I definately like the sounds of moving up and including Daunte instead of draft picks...This could turn out to be a great move...The less picks we have to give the better. Maybe our first, 3rd this year, something next year and daunte? 1300 points is alot to come by

Don't like the sounds of this at all. First, Russell is going number 1 to Oakland.
We got into this mess by giving up picks since forever. If we give C-Pep plus picks to get Quinn, what do we have? A rookie QB and Cleo Lemon. If we get Green we will probably have to give another pick or two. We have released half of the offensive line. We need our picks to rebuild the offense. We can get a future QB with a second round pick.

see this is why i believe cam and randy have been stock piling the draft picks to help move up in the draft by using draft picks and what not instead of trade players for draft position
