One longtime NFL talent evaluator told PFW, “Nick Saban is Steve Spurrier the second. He’s nothing but a college coach. The league ate him up and is spitting him out.â€Â

Saban’s talent evaluation appears surprisingly poor, as he has failed to capitalize on what should have been insider-type knowledge of the top college players, having come into the NFL from the talent-rich Southeastern Conference. Saban’s 2005 draft produced three starters, but the ’06 draft class, headed by Allen, has been a disappointment, netting no difference-makers.

they are nuts, this guy is a top five coach in this country, college or pro, ask any front office in the NFL, they all wanted to hire him, belicheck even went to study defense from him in the offseason, kick him now when he is down, i hope he ****z on them when they on up

I can't understand why everyone is making such a big deal over this article. Where in it do you find anything but anonymous opinions? "Nick Saban is Steve Spurrier the second" says one longtime unnamed 'NFL talent evaluator.' How do we know that the guy wasn't passed up for a job by the Fins and is bitter? How do we know the guy's opinion counts for anything? Why should we listen to it?
The same reporter also quotes former Dolphins players. At least we have some accreditation there, but that has to come with huge caveats: obviously, if they are FORMER players they are no longer around for a reason. Were they cut/traded? I'm guessing if you polled 100 former players from NY NFL team, 70% of them would say (anonymously, of course) some not so flattering things about their former employers
The article was a ridiculous sham. I'm bummed I wasted my time reading it

Agreed completely.

I'm not one that is willing to say Saban has proven anything at the Pro level yet, because he hasn't.
At the same time I am even more unwilling to say he's a failure because it's way, way too early to make an assessment on the guy either way. Especially considering the huge job the guy has been handed in trying to turn this team around.

This PFW article and others clamouring that Saban is a bust are full of it.

In the end however it may very well be too big a job for him.

That's why I think one of the main things Wayne needs to do this offseason is make damn sure that Mueller has at least equal say in personell issues.

Handling coaching and having full control over personell moves has proven to be way too big a job even for seasoned NFL coaches let alone a coach in his first tenure in the NFL.

If Saban tries to control everything and dosen't let Mueller do his thing I think that could greatly increase the chances that this era in Dolphins football fails.

i dont think the article says that Saban's a bust at all. What its saying is that there are huge shakeups in store for next year. Everything hasnt gone according to plan (imagine a second year coach making mistakes) That this season we saw the fissure appear and that there are people that Saban is about to jettison. Personally I found the article to be positive since its exactly what all of us want. Get rid of the players and coaches and maybe GM that dont want to be here. At the end of the day its Saban who's going to reap the glory or suffer the failure. The most important fact is I think it quashes that media crap of him wanting to leave next year

Exactly.

As one person who has known Saban for nearly two decades told PFW, this whole scenario is nothing new. “Initially he comes in and there’s a surge — his first year at MSU, they beat Michigan. … Then there’s a negative reaction to him — he doesn’t wear well. Then he (gets rid of) those people and … brings in more of his kind of people.”
With 19 players unsigned beyond this season and plenty of cap space anticipated to be available, Saban does not appear destined for a Spurrier-like exit after his second year, but a major overhaul of the roster — both players and coaches — could be in the offing this offseason.
Sounds like a huge shakeup to me. The way the team is playing, this is going to be a god thing!

It's really quite simple and you can go by the past history of BAD jet an bills teams.:shout: Saban has failed to teach them the most important lesson of all. Before you can learn how to win, you first have to learn how "Not to lose".In the past we couild be down by several TDs and we didn't have to worry. We were playing the Jets or the Bills. They were always going to find a way to lose. We have become like the teams we used to take for granted.

at the time, saban was an attractive hire. he appeared to have the coaching potential to be successful. if he was canned now, nobody in pro ball would want him. a college team would take him, but no pros. all this changes if he beats da bears!
