Mormino Signed

i know, i would want to sign right away so i can get my ferrari an house...

i dont know why it takes so long, it should be done as soon as the draft is over...

i think the league should set the price for each draft pick with a raise for each slot every year...

save all these delays

i dont know why everyone in the 1st round takes a year to sign.

Because they are trying to get as big of a contract as possible, its not greed, it is smart. However I think I sense your frustration with how long it always takes many of these picks, particularly OURS to sign. We NEED to do what the NBA does and install a NFL Rookie Salary Scale. This way there aren't any of the pain in the butt delays that almost always come with negotiating contracts with 1st rd picks. It is WAYYYYY overdue!!!

Once you go through this a few times as a fan you should learn that they all sign eventually and spending a hot second thinking about it before it actually becomes a holdout is completely unneccessary.A total waste of time.

Whats interesting is that it is 4 year deal, not very common for 6th rounders to sign 4 year deals, voids his restricted FA in the future. May be that was the holdup with the contract.

Well said. I think we've done this a few times eh?

Excellent news though!

About time he signed. Can't believe he held out so long.

Oh wait, that is right, he didn't hold out at all. Would have thought it was October and he just signed by some of the posts the past few weeks.

Not necessarily smart. They may get a few thousand dollars more in the short term, but at what cost over the long term? Over and over again you see some 1st rd picks have long holdouts (Sammie Smith, Jason Allen etc) and their rookie seasons become a wasted year.
If a guy reports on time he has a better chance of developing into a good player and he will get more money over the course of his career.
Agents do this because they know there are no guarantees their clients are going to make it in the NFL so they selfishly look for the initial big payday since they get a percentage. They are not concerned about their clients, only themselves.

Of course it takes time! These guy usually have a max of 10 years in the NFL. And 1st roudners often sign for 6-7 years. So if your deal isn't any good, that's it. Also, chances are that you are nit made for the NFL. So why take all the risk on your shoulders as a player? Do you think your boss gives you a pay raise after a year because you signed quickly?

Let the silly "Mormino" hasn't signed crap end.

Just leaves Beck and Ginn with some good time to go (Not a big deal if they miss some of the rookie camp).

"The silly Mormino hasn't signed crap" might seem just that, but let's look at a couple of factors at work here....

1) There are a lot of people who love the game of football, and never get the opportunity that Mormino is getting. To some who have weighed in on this, it might seem weird that getting the opportunity to get paid to do something that they would love to do but don't have the opportunity that Mormino is getting might seem frustrating.

2) Fans, as anyone who follows sports can attest, don't always act or think rationally.....fandom is passionate and rabid. True, it might seem that the Mormino situation was ridiculous but how many round 6 guys have you ever seen sign this late? 'Ol Drew has got to be a rare exception.

I'm hoping that he was definitely worth the wait. Hopefully, the end result will be his starting at left guard sometime in the near future!
