to the fullback position if R. Williams is reinstated and used as Ronnie's backup. Morris is a very versatile player and would be a great asset to keep on this team.:dolphins::evil::dolphins:

We should add a FB and put Morris back on ST. He is a great special teams player.

article from philly said they expect eagles to pursue morris and a few others in FA.

yeah, good thing I posted this idea about a month ago:tongue:

nah i would rather see how kyle eckel goes at FB for us the guy seems like he has great potential and could be a great short yardage situation runner, think mike alstott.

Why are Sammie Morris and David Bowens so disrespected by Dolphans?

We have been so fortunate to have these guys the last few years. Sammie had a higher average per carry than Ronnie did. He is a tailback and a damn good one. He also had a longer run from scrimmage than Ronnie did. He is the best ST's tackler on our team. If Cleveland had any brains they would sign Sammie and draft Quinn and forget about Petersen, but they won't because they seem to be cursed or something just like the Cardinals. Sammie and David can start on a lot of teams. David had 5 sacks in very limited playing time last year. We should sign him and cut Carter. We are going to sorely miss these guys when they are gone.

Come off it my man. Sammy Morrris is a serviceable back up and just barely. He's no where near close to being anything special.

I agree on Bowens though. He's been a consistent work horse on our defense for years.

He's a solid backup RB. Better than most, so I believe your classifying him as barely serviceable is shortsighted.
I suspect many GM's around the league have a much higher opinion of him than you do.

The only thing suspect is Morris' game dude. He's okay. He's not fast, he's not agile, he trips on his own feet, he's not a threat to take it to the house, and he's not a threat coming out of the flat. He also lacks vision. Now, he runs hard and plays hard and you gotta love that about him.

GMs may love him for his price tag. Who wouldn't want to pick up a guy who's not going to be expensive, who's going to play his *** off for you, and will be serviceable for 5-10 carries a game? Let's not forget, he's also a beast on special teams.

But a starting RB? Not even if you gave him 3 years of his life back.

As a matter of fact, if Morris can block, I agree with the thread- move him to FB because he's nothing special at RB and he never will be.

If Morris get's resigned, it will be due to his contributions on special teams. The fact that he can back up Brown and Williams in an emergency is just an added bonus.

When we originally accquired Sammy from Buffalo he was a full back. The move to running back made sense because he was undersized at fullback and I believe that will still be the issue. A guy like Ovie Mughelli from Baltimore comes to mind when I think about adding a new FB to the roster. However, I would rather have Morris at FB over Barnes. We would have a damn good receiving backfield and a 2 back threat to run. I'm just not sure how well the lead blocking would be. In today's NFL, the full back gets paid to lead block, not run.

That's the real point. In Cam's offense, the FB is expected to be the lead blocker and has to be good at it. He also has to be adept at pass blocking as well. Morris is not that guy. Morris is a nice player...a depth/fill-in player. He's a tweener in size and not the best lead blocker. He's done well for us in certain situations, but is not a solid TB or solid FB...just a good player..He also is good on STs. If we can resign him cheaply, fine, if not someone else can fill the role.

Yeah and in San Diego Cam had the best FB in the game in Lorenzo Neal. As you said, pass blocking is a big part of the full back position as well and that was Barnes' biggest problem in 2006. You hit the nail on the head in calling Morris a "tweener." The truth is he is to small to be a full back but would be considered a big running back. I agree with everything you say except maybe that last part. Sure there are players out there that can do for us what Sammy does, but I would like to see an extended effort to keep him around in that backup/ ST role. If Sammy wishes to seek other options then good for him, he's earned it.
