Mort on Favre's Crackback and what it might mean for Pennington

Mortenson tweeted this comment;

Favre's crackback out of the Wildcat just made all NFL QBs split out in formation a target for abuse

All its going to take to see the end of wildcat is one QB getting planted into the ground while split out wide

I have to agree with Mort, but this is where White becomes handy. Instead of Pennington splitting wide White can sub Penny in this case. Than Again he would have to be declared a back up, WR or KR/PR.

I've thought this from the beginning, I think that defenses have taken the high road on attacking the QB in the wildcat. Thank Brett for screwing things up for us!!

We could just put Cobbs or someone out there, or any backup if it becomes a problem. But then you'd have to say goodbye to the double reverse to Penny who throws it.

Oh, and I'm not really seeing how what Favre did changes things? He took it upon himself to make that idiot move. Eugene wasn't even looking at him.

It would not surprise me to see White replace Pennington when Miami lines up in the Wildcat. My biggest question is how will White be activated, If Henne is Miami's backup. Who will Miami have to deactivate and what quote on quote position will Pat White be listed in.

Ummm, Chad's 6'4" and something like 230 lbs. Do you really thing some little 180 pound corner is going to hurt him?
People always seem to forget how big QBs really are. Most are LB or TE sized players.

Did you see Vontae's hit on Josh Freeman?
Different situation, it doesn't really apply to a blocking situation.

I think if all 3 QBs are considered active then there is no penalty for switching between the 3.

They could also do what the Eagles did with Koy Detmer and AJ Feely. Detmer was listed as the 2nd QB so he could be the holder and Feely would only come in if McNabb as seriously hurt.

A. Winfield would make short work of Penny.

Idiot move - yes

Defender not seeing a blocker - poor defense

Obviously what Favre did was messed up and deserves to be fined but don't throw in the fact that the defender wasn't looking. A lot of big time blocks come from defenders not seeing the oncoming blocker. Favre just chose to throw a cheap shot at the guy.

I personally believe it was wrong, but I also think Favre doesn't have his legs yet. Nor do I believe being in the league as long as he has, being lined up at WR is something he is used to.

The whole beauty of the wildcat is as long as our starter is in there they have to respect the possibilty of us lining up behind center or in a regular formation. Opposing defensives dont know we are running the wildcat until we break hudle and have alot less time to match up. Once we have white they will automatically think wildcat or any other variation that is "tricky" and the defensive personell will react accordingly. White imo wont be in the "wildcat" as we knew it if he does appear for certain packages it will be entirely different i think the spread option package has some legs to it.

Yea I agree. I don't think he meant to injure the guy but it was obviously an illegal block and should not have been executed in that manner.

Guys we are not players and who knows what goes threw these guys mind in the moment of battle. I think he was just caught up in the moment and sometimes we dont think. Was it wrong yes, but would we be talking about it if it was Favre, no.

Its just all part of the Favre soap opera.

Awesome Explanation and one I agree totally with. I guess the whole Whitegate will no t be revealed till the season.
