Mort on ESPN just said that his souces say it is very likely that Pete Carroll will become the next Seahawks coach. He went on to say that his sources believe it would be a surprise if the deal doesn't get done.

Wow.

yeah, a couple years ago he almost took the Falcons job, but he wanted final say on everything. Word is he's already getting a staff together and he wants Jeremy Bates to come with him as OC.

Carrol wasn't a bad coach in the NFL, but a mediocre one. What's to say somebody can't learn? Especially since he runs a pro offense in college.

But Seattle is a tough job. Sure it can be an easy rebuild in a weak division, but they have a lot of players that are over the hill and not a lot of young talent (and Julius Jones as their top runningback). Bit curious he'd take the job.

This move does make Taylor Mays returning to his hometown more and more likely.

Nick Saban has been in Alabama for three years now. Perhaps he is itching to move on to another school, so maybe he becomes a candidate for USC.

Wow. I wonder who will get the USC job?

Mike Riley of Oregon State has been named as a possibility.

As for Carroll taking the Seattle job, it seems like the right fit for him and Pete has always felt that he's had unfinished business in the NFL. Organization gives him full power, stays on the West Coast, I don't see Pete walking away from this one.

ESPN is reporting it as a done deal. Carrol will have full control but they're still going to hire a GM.

Pete Carroll has reportedly resigned as head coach at Southern California and will become the next coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

A source told the Los Angeles Daily News of Carroll's resignation, but USC didn't comment on the report. Later, the LA Times reported Carroll would accept the job with the Seahawks. The Times reported players and coaches learned of Carroll's intentions via text message from an assistant coach.

What a great last week in the football world. Lane Kiffin to USC already assembling an all star coaching staff is probably the most interesting twist in college football. Although USC will miss Caroll deeply, if Kiffin's Dad and Norm Chow pick up slack and Lane continues the solid recruiting, watch out Pac 10.
