Chris mortensen on ESPN was talking about the brees update and said the the rotator cuff rumor was infact true. I know some of you thought it might have been a typo or a rumor, but according to Chris its true. The good news is that it wasnt done by the knife so it should heal fast. He also stated that teams that are interested in him will have to take a step back and look into his med record again, and the most important thing he said is that he sees Miami as the favorite to land Brees. Good news to my ears. It should be on the ESPN rerun at the half or the top of the hour. I think it was at the beginning of the show. Just thought it was intersting and thought you should know. I see it as a little light at the end of the long dark tunnel I call the CBA.

is this good news...

that infact the rumor is true???

I really wanted brees but is there a doctor on here that can clearify how much more serious this is

will he be able to start the season and if so ... at full strength???

It's not a rumor. There are a few threads here with info from an article in one of the SD papers with the pertinent information.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2351620

"Dr. James Andrews released an encouraging medical report on Brees' surgically repaired right shoulder that could allow him to participate in a team's mini-camp in May. On Jan. 5, Brees underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair his shoulder capsule and a partially torn rotator cuff. Andrews deemed the surgery successful. Andrews was able to correct the damage by arthroscopy as opposed to a more intrusive operation with the surgical knife."

If Brees can be healthy by mini-camps we have to sign him no matter what it takes. He is a Saban type of player.

I read another article where Dr. Andrews said, "There's probably not a pitcher or QB playing pro ball that doesn't have at least a partial tear in their rotator cuff."

And then he said Brees' was a very minor tear.

Sorry, it wasn't Andrews that said that.....

Other orthopedic surgeons questioned yesterday said a rotator cuff tear could be considered more severe than just a labrum tear. But they also said they would be surprised if they saw a professional quarterback or pitcher who did not have a partial tear of the rotator cuff.

“There is going to be wear and tear,” said one.

The doctors, who did not want to be quoted because Brees is not their patient, said Andrews' letter should be taken at face value. They indicated that since Andrews thinks Brees will be ready, he probably will be.

is the fact that san diego wants to get rid of a 27 year old probowl qb not enough information for you?

nope!

their gm wants rivers to get the chance. after all, smith did draft him.
and he probably realized he didn't want to put so much money on the QB position.

that's kinda a red flag, but doesn't the GM want to get schottenheimer fired? it's a messed up situation in SD.

cuff... crap! Depending on how bad it was your looking at anywhere from 4 months to 1 year. I'm in my 8th month. Can't throw until summer.
