Since Matt Roth and the size and disposition to play LB as we are finding out why not try him at one of the middle positions? At 280 lbs. and somewhat of a liability in coverage maybe inside would be a better spot for him. What say you?

I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. He's playing like a beast right where he is. Keep him there. Let him get acclimated. You watch. He'll get better...

Why don't we move Chad to full time wideout since the wildcat is working so well!

I agree , if it ain't broke, but sooner or later one of these teams is going to isolate him on a back, and look out! Penny at WR, next thing you know somebody will say "put Ronnie at QB".... Oh we already did that.

I wasn't complaning, in fact I love how he's played so far. I just thought that we will probably draft at the OLB position next year, than what do we do with Roth, and 280 lb LB's don't grow on trees. If he could play inside it might prolong his stay in the NFL.

Reason why you like him so much is for his ability to bullrush himself into the backfield, to either sack or disrupt a play.

If you move him to Mike, he would only be able to blitz, 1-4 times a game. Not worth it.

this was brought up earlier this week.. It would be a disaster if we moved him to Mike. His bread and butter is rushing the passer from the edge as well as setting the edge to contain the runner. Besides, Crowder, much t o my surpirse, is playing extremely well at Mike. Why take him out for Roth who wouldnt perform as well there?

Roth is an OLB, not a MLB, no need for change.

if we find a true OLB edge rusher next year (say, very early in the draft) then i say absolutely make that switch. he would be better fit for ILB than OLB in the 3-4. but for now he is doing great.

Just because he transitioned well from DE to OLB so far doesn't mean he can take on MLB duties as easily. The lateral movement it takes to be a MLB is huge and it takes freaks of nature like Z.Thomas to over come his lack of speed and size to dominate that position. Roth playing OLB has alot less responsibility and is alot more straight line with the occasional drop in coverage ( because we're blitzing somewhere else).
He's doing well, so let's not make him into J.Allen with a new position once a week.

No freakin way! He is not near fast enough in his cuts or reading of play calls to man the mike....Channing is having a great season

Roth may be somewhat of a liability in coverage but he stuck pretty well to Antonio Gates in the 4th quarter of the San Diego game that Rivers had to throw the ball away instead of trying to force the ball into coverage.

Moving Roth to Mike LB will not remove or lessen any coverage responsibilties he might have. Sooner or later, like in the Chargers game, Roth will be asked to cover someone.

Based on what? Did you watch Roth play OLB in the San Diego game?

Roth is most effective at crumpling the knees of TE's, RB's, and FB's. He plows right through them on his was to the QB.

Contrary to popular talk he looks pretty good in coverage at times but most of the time if he is on the field he is rushing the passer or shutting down the run on his side.

Leave him on the edge. First, he's a beast and can set the edge with his massive size...he can't/won't do this from the middle. Also, in the middle, he will be expected to do more reads and cover more of the field. Leave him be where he can focus and is obviously a good fit. Moving to the middle may be the square peg in the round hole.
